If you're ever apart from your children, a new study says just talking on the phone will help just as much as a hug(拥抱).

If you're a parent who spends long hours on the job, you probably feel sorry for spending so much time away from your kids. But the results of a new study show that a mother's voice alone can be just as comforting to an anxious child as physical contact(接触).

In an experiment, researchers from the University of Wisconsin Madison asked a group of girls between the ages of 7 and 12 to solve math problems in front of judges—a stressful situation for anyone. Before the girls were set to give their answers, the researchers measured their levels of two hormones(荷尔蒙): cortisol, which goes up during stressful periods, and oxytocin, the "love" hormone, which goes down at the same time.

After the girls finished the problems, some of them got to meet up with their mothers right away. The moms came in and hugged the girls. Another group of the girls didn't see their mothers, but received phone calls from them, in which their mothers told them how well they'd done. The final group had no contact with their mothers, but instead watched an animal movie, March of the Penguins.

Finally, the girls' hormone levels were measured again. Although the movie was interesting, it did nothing to reduce the children's anxiety—but, surprisingly, both the physical contact and phone calls from their mothers had the same effect on reducing the girls' stress levels.

So, no matter how old you are, if you're feeling stressed about something in your life, a phone call to Mom might be just the key to help you feel better.

A、b-c-d-a B、d-b-c-a C、c-b-d-a D、d-c-b-a
(3)、From the passage, we can infer that      .

(4)、What's the main idea of the passage?
A、A mother's voice can comfort her anxious kids. B、Mothers should often hug their kids. C、Mothers should spend enough time caring about their kids. D、Scientists discovered why kids become stressed when having tests.

We need animals. Every animal has its place in the balance(平衡) of nature. We should try to help save the animals.

Some people think zoos are good places. The zoos give the animals the comfortable and safe living places. If the animals get hurt or ill, people will take care of them. The zoo is a good place to know the rules in the wild world. We can be much closer to nature. We can know more about the animals in the zoos by watching, listening even smelling instead of just looking at the pictures in books.

Some people don't think animals feel happy in the zoos. Animals like pandas, wolves and bears usually live in the wild. They play and find food by themselves. They are free and happy in the wild. If they are in the zoos, food is enough and rooms are comfortable. They do not need to do their best to find food to eat or places to stay in. They just walk around, sleep day and night, but they are not free at all.

I think we should build national parks as wild life nature reserves to protect animals. If we do nothing, animals will get fewer and fewer.

If you ask soma people, "How did you learn English so well?" You may get a surprising answer, "In my sleep!"

These are people who have taken part in one of the recent experiments to test "Learn-While-Sleep" methods, which are now being tried in several countries, and with several subjects, of which English is only one.

Specialists say that this "sleep study" method speeds language learning greatly. They say the average person can learn two or three times as much during sleep as in the same period (时期) during the day, and does not affect his rest in any way, A word of warning, however, that sleep teaching will only strengthen in your mind what you have studied already while you are awake.

In an experiment. lessons were broadcast (广播) over the radio. Each lesson lasted twelve hours from 8: 00 p. m. to 8: 00 a. m. The first three hours of English grammar and vocabulary were given with the students awake. At 11: 00 p. m. a lullaby was broadcast to send the student to sleep and for the next three hours the radio whispered the lesson again into his sleeping ears. At 2: 00 a. m. a sharp noise was sent over the radio to wake the sleeping student up for a few minutes to review the lesson. The cradlesong (a kind of soft song making you fail asleep easily) sent him back to rest again while the radio went on At 5: 00 a. m. his sleep ended and he had to go through the lesson again for three hours before breakfast.

Juice tastes good. But is it wise and healthy to drink juice? We asked three experts for their ideas.

Bec Reynolds, a nutritionist(营养学家)

Drinking water is the best choice. However, if you don't like it and cannot drink milk, then it's better to drink juice than to have drinks that are "worse," like soft drinks. Both juice and soft drinks are sugary, but juice often have some vitamins, so you'd better not drink them.

It would be better to drink juice that is made from many different vegetables. Few children eat enough vegetables. But vegetables are very important for the growth of your body.

David Manton, a ____

There are two main reasons for not drinking juice. First, the sugar in it feeds the bacteria(细菌)on your teeth. In Australia, nearly half of all six-year-olds have at least one hole in their teeth. Drinks like fruit juice are part of the reason for this.

Second, the acid(酸) in many different fruit juices can destroy the hard outer coating of your teeth. Once it's gone, it can't grow back.

Sandro Demaio, a doctor

Fruits like oranges and apples have fiber(纤维素). Fiber is very important. First, it slows down our eating. Second, it makes us feel full for longer. And third, it helps prevent the sugars going into our blood. Then we have fewer chances of getting weight, which can lead to many health problems.

When we tum apples into apple juice, we remove most of the fiber. Sometimes, even the vitamins are lost. What we don't lose, though, is the sugar. So try not to drink juice.
