The Value of a Dollar

    When I was nineteen, I had a job at a local bookstore. One night, a young couple came in and walked here and there looking for a book. They seemed {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (be) the usual type to give mall {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (worker) a hard time. When they went to pay {#blank#}3{#/blank#} the book, the girl was a dollar or two short of {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (buy) the book she wanted.

    She looked disappointed. I had a customer discount card and it was still active. I told the girl {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (gentle), "Hang on, don't worry, you'll have the money to buy the book." I typed my password.

    She gave me a {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (thank) smile. With a dollar left, she and her boyfriend left the store. I believed that I would never see {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (they) again.

    I don't remember how long it was. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} they did return later that evening just to bring me {#blank#}9{#/blank#} beautiful card that said "It's people like you who make the world a better place to live in."

    I {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (move) by the little girl and her boyfriend. In fact, they have also made the world a little brighter.

    Tom had a tour to England last winter. He {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (go) by plane. There were lots of {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(people) on the plane. When he arrived at the airport, his friend Jack was waiting for {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(he). When they {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(arrive) at Jack's home, Tom was very happy.     The London Eye is a tourist attraction (观光胜地) in London. There you can get into a capsule(太空舱) to enjoy a great view of the city of London.

    I {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(visit) the London Eye last summer with a friend. My friend didn't know{#blank#}2{#/blank#}we were going. I just told him we would go{#blank#}3{#/blank#}very special. As we arrived at Waterloo Station, he had worked out where we were going. He smiled {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(happy). When we reached the London Eye, there{#blank#}5{#/blank#}a very long waiting line, so in order to save{#blank#}6{#/blank#}, he stayed in the line while I went to buy the{#blank#}7{#/blank#}.

    The capsule doesn't completely stop when people get on, so you have to get into it quickly. Then the door of the capsule shuts. The view was {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(wonder). We took many photos of the beautiful view. It{#blank#}9{#/blank#}about half an hour for the capsule to go around.

    If you are{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(interest) in going there, I would like to give you some advice. To enjoy the view, go in the daytime. There are night rides, but you won't see a lot. Sometimes the top of the wheel can be quite cool even though it's sunny. So ladies, don't forget to take a scarf.
