Trees are useful to man in three very important ways. The first important way is that they provide man with food, wood and other products. Trees provide not only man with food, but also many animals with food. Without trees many animals could not live on the earth. It's not easy for man to live on the earth, either.
The second important way is that trees give us shade. On a hot summer day, people are eager(渴望)to have a rest under the shade of a tree after they have walked a long way. You can imagine how important the shade of a tree is to man and to animals.
The third important way is that trees help to prevent drought and foods. However, in many parts of the world, man has not realized the third important way. He has cut trees down in large numbers. In the end he finds that he has lost the best friends he had.

    In America, boys and girls like watching TV. Some children spend six hours a day at school and four to six hours a day in front of the TV sets. Some children even watch TV for eight hours or more on Saturday.

    Television is like books and films. A child can learn both good things and bad things from it.  Some TV programs help children to understand the news, the people and places in other countries. With TV, children do not have to go to the movies. They can listen to interesting music or watch a game at home. But some programs are bad for children, so parents sometimes should help them to find other interesting and useful things to do.

    Yesterday Jack went to a movie with his mother, Mary. There were two movies last night. One was My Father's Birthday. It was a very funny comedy. They both liked it. The actor was Paul Jackson. Jack liked him very much. The other was Black September. It was a thriller. His mother thought it was boring. After that it was ten o'clock. They went home by car. Jack was very happy, because he liked the films and he had a good time. Half an hour later, he went to bed happily. It was a happy Children's Day.

    When people get older, it becomes harder to do many things, from walking to the store to doing the housework. Old people living alone can also feel lonely. As a volunteer, you can do a lot to help the old in your neighborhood. You could visit them and help them with their housework.

    Many people with disabilities need help. You could volunteer to read books to the blind or deliver(递送) something for people who can't get around too well.

    There are lots of volunteer jobs to do in hospitals and health care centers. As a volunteer, you can make beds, deliver flowers and gifts, help serve meals, and do lots of other important jobs

    Some families don't have enough money to buy food and c\s For their kids. Some people don't have place to live at all. To help these people as a volunteer, you can give clothes, food or money to, or raise money for a charity.

    Sometimes people need more help when the holidays come. Holidays are happy, but for people who are alone or unlucky, they can be a lonely, hard time. As a volunteer, you can deliver holiday dinners to less lucky people, visit the lonely old people and serve food to the homeless.

    You are a wonderful person and your mother and I love you. It will not be long before you leave school to make your way in the world. Can I give you some friendly advice? Here are some things that you should never do.

    Never get upset with your look.

    We think you look great. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Eat well, take exercise and be healthy. Some girls worry too much about not getting the perfect shape. You look fine.

    Never put yourself at serious risk.
