On a cold winter day, a fox {#blank#}1{#/blank#} mother bear that he would teach her how to fish. As she{#blank#}2{#/blank#} to learn, he took her to a hole in the ice, and told her to put her tail down in the water. He told her to keep the tail there for{#blank#}3{#/blank#} . Then{#blank#}4{#/blank#} she pulled the tail out of the water, she would find fish around the tail. The bear was foolish enough to believe{#blank#}5{#/blank#} the fox said. She sat for a long time with her tail in the water. She was {#blank#}6{#/blank#} the fish. But when she{#blank#}7{#/blank#} to pull her tail lout of the water, she found that it was frozen in the ice. She asked the fox to pull her out. But he laughed to himself and {#blank#}8{#/blank#} . so she called father bear to help her. Father bear came. He pulled hard and {#blank#}9{#/blank#} got her out, but a part of her tail was in the ice. That is{#blank#}10{#/blank#} people find the bear's tail so short.

    The champions of the Earth Awards (地球卫士奖) is the United Nations' highest environmental honor. On Dec 5th, 2017, it {#blank#}1{#/blank#} to China's Saihanba.

    Saihanba is a vast forest{#blank#}2{#/blank#} in Chengde, Hebei. In Mongolian, its name means “beautiful highland”, and rightly so: across the area{#blank#}3{#/blank#} forests and grasslands are around crystal-clear lakes.

    Around the 10th century, Saihanba became a{#blank#}4{#/blank#} hunting ground. During the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), Emperor Kangxi liked Saihanba so much and he once killed 318 rabbits in a single day.

    In 1860, because of a shortage of money, the land {#blank#}5{#/blank#}to the public. In the following years, logging (砍伐) and wildfires destroyed the forest and grassland. By the 1950s, Saihanba had become a barren (荒芜的) land.

    Hard work and efforts{#blank#}6{#/blank#} a national forest in Saihanba started in the 1960s. In 1961, a group of six scientists traveled through Saihanba and studied the {#blank#}7{#/blank#} of growing trees there.

    They finally found one tree standing alone in the vast land, which {#blank#}8{#/blank#}encouraged them. If one tree could survive there, so could millions of others.

    About 56 years later, after overcoming the countless difficulties of planting trees in a very cold place, the barren land is now a vast forest. Today, Saihanba is known as a natural shield (防护){#blank#}9{#/blank#} sandstorms. It is very important for Beijing's water and air{#blank#}10{#/blank#}

    Mike is a middle school student. He used to play computer games. He thought he could get a lot of{#blank#}1{#/blank#}from the games. Sometimes he didn't go to school and{#blank#}2{#/blank#}in a net bar all day. For example, they made music without the use of computers but with tools made from wood and animal skin.

    Travel was simple at that time. Most of the people were excellent boat makers and they could make boats in a variety of shapes and sizes for travelling along the rivers and in the {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. With increased skills and experience, the people learnt how to make the boats stronger against rains and storms.

    Some things are basic for us{#blank#}4{#/blank#}, but the people in the past could live the lives to the full even without them. We should not look down on the wisdom of people long ago.
