Brandy was an old dog. When her owner {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（die）, the dog stayed near the house and waited for her owner to return. Some of the neighbors left food out for Brandy. The dog was {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（friend）, so they weren't much concerned（担心） with Brandy.

    One day, Brandy walked into a neighbor's yard and began playing with {#blank#}3{#/blank#} 18-month-old boy. The boy whose name was Adam had fun {#blank#}4{#/blank#}（play） with her. Then the boy's mother left Adam in the yard to play while she answered the phone. When she returned he was {#blank#}5{#/blank#}（go）. The mother was scared and called the police. They looked for Adam for six hours but were {#blank#}6{#/blank#}（success）.

    Then people heard barking（狗叫声） coming from the woods. So they all rushed to the woods. Adam was fast asleep {#blank#}7{#/blank#} a tree. Brandy was keeping Adam there while one of her own {#blank#}8{#/blank#}（leg） dangled over（悬垂） a deep hole.

    Brandy had followed Adam when he walked away. Seeing him in danger, she'd held him {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（safe） for all those hours.

    Adam's mother was so grateful {#blank#}10{#/blank#} Brandy spent the rest of her days with them. In Brandy's honor, Adam's mother founded Pets Alive, a pet rescue（救援） center in New York.

    The whole school was talking about the winter camp. And everyone was looking forward{#blank#}1{#/blank#}it except me because I thought I would get homesick. But it was the way we grew up.

    When arriving at the camp, we {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(ask)to ski(滑雪)down to a field by the coach. I skied{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(careful), but I still hit a piece of ice and fell down.

     "Ha！Ha!" Behind me, somebody started laughing. I looked back to see{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(whom)was laughing at me. To my surprise, I saw {#blank#}5{#/blank#}girl in the same embarrassing(令人尴尬的)position I was in. "I thought I'd be bad at this, but it seems{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(difficult)than I expected!" she said. Suddenly, I started laughing, too. After being so afraid of{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(fall), it was a comfort not to fear it anymore.

    The next day, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} I didn't want to go ski jumping, I was chosen to do that first. But when my{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(foot)left the ground, I felt I was flying and it was wonderful.
