"Can I see my baby?" the happy new mother asked. When the baby was lying in her arms and she moved the cloth to look upon his tiny face, she gasped(吃力地喘着气). The doctor turned quickly and looked out of the hospital window. The baby had been born without ears. Luckily, time proved that the baby's hearing was perfect. Though the misfortune(不幸)happened to him, he grew into a handsome boy. Yet he felt ashamed when he communicated with others.
    "You should get in touch with other young people," his mother told him, with a kindness in her heart. The boy's father talked with the family doctor about his ears. "Could nothing be done?"the father asked. "I believe I could give him a pair of outer ears, if they could be got," the doctor replied.
    Two years went by. One day, his father said to the son, "You are going to the hospital, Son. Mother and I have someone who will donate the ears you need, but it's a secret."The operation is a big success. Later he married and entered the diplomatic(外交的) service. One day, he asked his father, "Who gave the ears? Who gave me so much? I could never do enough for him or her."
    "You could, my son," said the father, "but the agreement was that you are not to know…not yet."
    The years kept their secret, but one of the darkest days did come. He stood with his father over his mother's casket(棺材). Slowly, the father stretched forth(伸出) a hand and raised the thick, reddish brown hair to reveal the mother had no outer ears.
    "Mother said she was glad she never let her hair be cut," his father whispered gently, "and nobody ever thought mother less beautiful, did they?"

    Rose is a student from the U. S. She is in Shanghai with her parents now. She doesn't know Chinese, but she is trying to study and speak it. She often tries to speak Chinese with her Chinese friends. Sometimes they don't understand her, because she can't speak Chinese well.

    It's Saturday morning. Rose goes out. She is on her way to the park. She is going there to see a flower fair(展销会). But she doesn't know how to get there. She asks a Chinese boy the way. The boy can't understand her. Then she takes out a pen and a piece of paper. She draws flowers on it, and then gives the picture to the boy and says something about it. The boy smiles and then shows Rose the way to the park.

    Carmen is a twelve-year-old girl. She has a sister and her name is Kara. Kara is ten years old.

    Tonight, Carmen and Kara want to make dinner for the family. They want to make pizza because all their family like it. They need to buy the ingredients（原料）for the pizza. So, their dad drives them to the supermarket.

    When they get to the supermarket, Carmen and Kara look for the ingredients. Soon they get all of them and go to pay for them. They are 30 dollars.

    They put the ingredients in the car. Their dad drives them home.

    When they get home, Carmen and Kara take the ingredients out of the car. They take them to the kitchen.

    In the kitchen, they clean the vegetables. Then, they cut the vegetables. Next, they take out the crust（面包皮）. They put the ingredients on top of the crust. Finally they put the pizza in the oven（烤箱）.

    They take the pizza out of the oven in thirty minutes.

    "The pizza smells good!" says their mother.

    "We think so!" say Carmen and Kara.

    The family are happy, and they eat the pizza for dinner.

    It was Mother's Day. But the young mother was a little unhappy. Because she was 800 miles away from her parents. In the morning she phoned her mother to wish her a happy Mother's Day. and her mother told her about the beautiful lilacs(丁香)in the garden.

    Later that day. When she told her husband about the lilacs. He said. "I know where we can find all that you want. Get the children and come on. "So they went. Driving down the country roads.

    There on a small hill. They saw a lot of beautiful purple lilacs. The young woman ran quickly to enjoy the flowers. Carefully. She picked a few here and a few there. On their way home there was a smile on her face.

    When they were passing a nursing home(养老院). The young woman saw an old granny sitting in a chair. She had no children with her. They stopped the car and the young woman walked to the old woman. Put the flowers in her hands. And smiled at her. The old granny thanked her again and again. She smiled happily. Too.

    When the young mother came back to her car. Her children asked her. "Who is that old granny？Why did you give our flowers to her？"

    "I don't know her." their mother said. "But it's Mother's Day. And she has no children. I have all of you. And I still have my mother. Just think how much those flowers meant to her. "

My cousin Tommy was born in a small city in 2009. It's in the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (西方) of Germany, and it has a population of about 2,000,000. There are lots of things to do, with a library, a park, a zoo and a{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (体育馆). Tommy likes playing basketball, he thinks it is an {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (激动人心的) sport.
