A young American man got on a British train in a hurry. There were no seats for him, but there was a seat with a small dog sitting on it. Its (主人) was a middle-aged lady with a large hat. He said to her (礼貌地) , "Excuse me, madam, may I sit down?"
She said (没什么) , but turned over the pages of her newspaper. The young man was embarrassed(尴尬的) . Again he said, "Excuse me, madam, may I have this seat, please?" And again she made no (回答) .
For a(第三) time the young American said, "Madam, would you please put away your dog so that I could sit down?" And for that time the woman didn't (似乎) to hear him at all, so he opened the window, picked up the dog, threw it out, and then sat on the empty seat.
It was completely (安静的) in the train, and then an Englishman sitting (对面) said, "You know, you Americans are the (最奇怪的) people. You drive on the wrong side of the road. You eat with the fork in the wrong hand. You name the floors in the wrong numbers and just now you (扔) the wrong dog out of the window."
