My family came to America from China many years ago. I was born in Oakland in 1989. Many young Chinese Americans don't learn much1because our parents2us to learn English very well.

    Chinese is a difficult language. If we don't speak it3, it's easy to forget. Writing is hard, too. We have to remember lots of words and thousands of characters (汉字). In English, there are only 26 4.

    At home, I5English with my family. But now, we speak some Cantonese (广东话) because we watch films 6 that language.

    My mom has come to love F4, a Chinese boy band (组合). They are in the film Meteor Garden (《流星花园》). We all7the TV series, and we learn Cantonese8 saying some funny words from the TV series to each other.

    It's fun to speak Cantonese with my Chinese friends. It 9funny because we can't say the words just right.

    Young Chinese Americans know that our culture (文化) is getting lost, so we try to10something.

    In the Pacific Ocean lies Easter Island(复活节岛), a strange and magic place. The island 1 its English name from the Dutch explorer(荷兰探险者 ) Jacob Roggeveen. He arrived there on Easter in 1722. There, Roggeveen found a strange culture and even stranger huge 2called moat and they looked like men. Since that time, 3 all over the world have tried to find out how people came to the island and how they built such huge stones. But scientists still can't agree on 4the island's people came from. Did they 5 from Chile or Hawaii Island, very far from there? No one knows. So far, it is 6a mystery(谜). These huge stone men are also a mystery. Scientists think that the people 7 and moved the huge stone men there thousands of years ago. But how did they do it? And why did they do it? 8can really guess.

    As time went by, the people on the island died out slowly 9 fighting and illnesses. Thousands of people used to live on the island.10now, there only live several hundred. Luckily, they still have their traditional culture.

Tom and Jerry

    Tom the cat and Jerry the mouse are two of the most popular cartoon characters in the world. In the short cartoons, Tom is always trying to catch Jerry, but he never has any success. Almost every cartoon ends with Tom in trouble and Jerry laughing at him. The stories are full of fun and have a long history.

    William Hanna and Joseph Barbera both worked for MGM in the late 1930s. Their boss told them to make funny cartoons. Together they thought of the idea of a cat and a mouse. They thought it would be funny if the mouse was clever and always got the cat into trouble.

    The first Tom and Jerry cartoon was shown in cinemas in 1940. It was a great success. Over the next 17 years, they made many Tom and Jerry cartoons. Most of them are around seven minutes long.

    In total, Hanna and Barbera made 114 Tom and Jerry cartoons. The cartoons were so good that they won a number of awards. The famous cat and mouse remain popular today, as the cartoons are still shown on television around the world.

I always tried to do something for the children in some poor villages. On a hot July day, I{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (参加)a group of volunteers and came to a small village in the west of China to  build a library at a primary school.

After a three-hour ride, we{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(到达) the village  at last. The school was poor and we had to choose a{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (明亮的) small room as the library. Our job was to{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (改变……的位置) the books into the room, place them on the{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (架子) and set up small tables and chairs.

I soon found the work wasn't as fun as I had{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (期盼). Later that afternoon, students began to borrow books from the library. One student thanked us again and again because they couldn't{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (买得起) so many books. My{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(心) was filled with Joy. Then we worked on and in the end, we {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (创造) a library.

It only took us one day to build the library, but it will make a{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (差别) to the children's lives.

Where has the Time gone?is the hottest song that has moved thousands of Chinese. Chinese parents give their children endless love and ask nothing in return. However, sometimes, daughters and sons are too busy growing up and forget that their parents are getting older and older. What should we do? Let's have a look at a l{#blank#}1{#/blank#} of a father's.

When you see me meet something n{#blank#}4{#/blank#}, give me the necessary time and don't laugh at me. I taught you how to do so many things… to eat well, to dress well… to face life. 

If I do not want to eat, do not force me. I know well when I need to and when not. When my legs do not allow me to walk, give me your h{#blank#}5{#/blank#} the same way I did when you gave your first steps. 

When sometimes I lose the memory during our conversation, let me have the necessary time to remember. And if I cannot do it, do not become nervous b{#blank#}6{#/blank#} the most important thing is not my conversation but to be with you and to have you listen to me.

There is a tradition in Rita's school. At the beginning of every school year，each student gets a special job from the teacher. This year，Rita，a quiet and hard﹣working girl，hoped for an 1 task. Instead，she was given a small box with sand and a small ant by the teacher. 

2 the teacher said this task was special，Rita felt disappointed. However，she decided to try her best with her new responsibility. She began to study and 3 the ant ，She made the box a comfortable home for the ant，and it grew much bigger than anyone expected.
