For me, living in Canda for 25 years, China is a new world that I have longed to explore. This spring, I chose Yangzhou to be my first stop on a 16-month trip around China. It was like love at first sight. At 15, I bought a book of collection of poems about Tang Dynasty. Through it, I heard of Yangzhou for the first time. I was deeply attracted by a poem written by Li Bai-“Sailing to Yangzhou in March”.

Yangzhou,sitting 2,500 years at the crossing of the Yangtze River and the 2,400-year-old Grand Canal(大运河),is one of the first 24 historic and cultural cities in China. In the old town,there are many streets and houses. It's best to visit the city in spring. Spring oaints the city in brigth colors.

 Yangzhou has always been famous for its gardens. Among them ,the Slender West Lake, one of the biggest attractions in the city,was my first stop. The park with its fantastic landscape and lots of history has enough to keep a tourist busy for the whole day. What a shame I simply could afford half a day!

 My next stop was He Garden,one of the best prottected gardens in Yangzhou. It was once owned by the family of He Zhidao in Qing Dynasty. He Zhidao successfully brought Chinese and Western architectural(建筑的) features together.

Yangzhou is also the starting point of the Grand Canal tour. Taking a boat along the part of the canal in Yangzhou, I was amazed at the liveliness of this ancient waterway and the city's history and culture.

 Luckily, my two-day trip to Yangzhou was filled with pleasure and wonder. It made me hungry for more China.

    A poor farmer had a friend who was famous for the wonderful apple trees he grew.

    One day, his friend gave the farmer a young apple tree and told him to plant it. The farmer was pleased with the gift, but he did not know where to plant it.

    He was afraid that if he planted the tree near the road, strangers would steal the fruit. If he planted the tree in one of his fields, his neighbours would come at night and steal some of the apples. If he planted the tree near his house, his children would take the fruit. Finally he planted the tree in his woods. But without sunlight and good soil(土壤), the tree soon died.

    Later the friend asked the farmer why he had planted the tree in such a poor place. "What's the difference?" the farmer said angrily and then told what he had thought.

    "Yes, "said the friend, "but at least someone could have enjoyed the fruit. Now you not only have robbed everyone of the fruit, but also you have destroyed(毁掉) a good apple tree!"

    After dinner,Leticia is talking with her family．"Tuesday is our 100th day of school．For a project(项目)，everyone in my grade needs to bring 100 things to school for the important day,"says Leticia．

    "Do you have any ideas?"asks her brother．

    "Yes．"says Leticia，"but I can't tell you now．"Then she goes into her room to work on it．Leticia spends three evenings on it．When she finishes it，Leticia brings her project to her family．

    "Cool!"says her brother．

    "This is very interesting，"says her mother．

     On the 100th day of school，students in Leticia's grade bring their projects to the school art hall．Leticia shows her project．She writes 100 sentences on a big piece of paper!They are 100 reasons(原因)why she loves to come to school．Leticia's friends begin reading her words on the paper．

    "Look．Kate!This one says‘I like to listen to Kate sing．"says Mia．

     Soon there are a lot of students around Leticia's project．There is a sentence for every student and every teacher in Leticia's grade．Her 100 sentences let the students and teachers know the school is such(这样的)a great place．

    Many people think if you turn off your TV, your life will be colorful. They also suggest children should watch less TV. TV can give children big problems. First, it's bad for your studies, you spend too long on TV. You can't do well in school. Second, it's bad for your health. Because you watch too much TV, you are getting overweight and your eyesight is getting worse. Third, it's bad for your family life. While your families are watching TV, they don't talk too much. Also it has too much fighting. Some children always follow the fighting in real life.

    If you turn off your TV for a week, maybe you can find something fun to do. Maybe you can read books, learn to swim or paint pictures. What do you think? Would you want to have a try?
