It was the early autumn of my {#blank#}1{#/blank#} year at a new school. At first no one knew me. I felt {#blank#}2{#/blank#} and was afraid to make friends with anyone. I couldn't talk to anyone about my problem. Then one day, a girl looked at me and {#blank#}3{#/blank#} when I sat in {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. I felt the touch of something bright and {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. It made me {#blank#}6{#/blank#} happy, lively and warm. Day by day, I learnt to {#blank#}7{#/blank#} people and the girl has {#blank#}8{#/blank#} my best friend. Now I believe that the world is what you think it is. Smile at the world and it will smile back.

    In Germany there are different {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (kind) of high schools. Some prepare students for work, and others prepare them {#blank#}2{#/blank#} college. All schools are great places for making friends and learning German.

    Short days Most high schools in Germany begin at about 8: 00 a. m. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} end at about 3: 30 p. m. This {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (mean) your morning will be busy with classes. You will have time to do 1180 homework and take part {#blank#}5{#/blank#} private (私人的) clubs after school.

    Private clubs in many countries, schools offer official sports and after-school activities. This is {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (little) common in Germany. After-school activities {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (be) usually organized by private clubs. There are clubs for things {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (like) soccer, dance, theatre and almost everything else. Once you are in Germany, ask around at school and talk to other students {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (find) out what private clubs there are in your area and meet your {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (interest).

    Some of my classmates often ask me, "Hey, Bill! What do you usually do on Saturday? Are you usually at home? Where do you go to play?" Here are my answers. On Saturday I'm usually {#blank#}1{#/blank#} home. I'm usually with my dogs. My family has two {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (dog). One is Millie. She is very cute. Sure, I like being with her. The other one (另一个) is Dave. He {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (look) scary but I do like it. Why do I like this scary dog? {#blank#}4{#/blank#} he can help me look after my home.
