Hello, my name is Kate. I have studied in a nursing school for three years. During my second month of the school, our teacher gave us a small test. I answered the questions very quickly until I read the last one:“What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?” I thought this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman a few times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how could I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our grade. “Of course,” said the teacher, “As a nurse, you will meet many people. You should care all of them, even if al1 you do is just to smile and say ‘hello’.”  I've never forgotten that lesson. Later I learned her name was Dorothy.

    Here are a few ways to motivate(激发)children to do chores.

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#}.Children always watch their parents and learn how to act from them, so the parents must set a good example and take chores seriously. This motivates children to do chores，too.

    Decide what kinds of chores children do. For younger children，give them easy work，like putting away their toys.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}.

    Tell children about the importance of doing chores.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}.Knowing the importance of the chores helps to motivate children to do them.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.When children finish the chores on the list，parents can reward(奖励）them by giving them a prize. A chore list also gives children a sense of pride(自豪感）when they finish all their chores.

    Give children some money to do more chores.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}.But it is not the best way. It's best to make children feel that doing chores is the work that they should do.

    The world itself is becoming much smaller by using modern traffic and modern communication means. Life today is much easier than it was hundreds of years ago, but it has brought new problems. One of the biggest problems is pollution. To pollute means to make things dirty.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}We see it, smell it, drink it and even hear it. Man has been polluting the earth. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}Many years ago, the problem was not so serious because there were not so many people. When the land was used up or the river was dirty in one place, man moved to an-other place. But this is no longer true. Man is now slowly polluting the whole world. Air pollution is still the most serious. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}Water pollution kills our fish and pollutes our drinking water. Noise pollution makes us angry more easily.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}They stop people from burning coal in houses and factories in the city, and from putting dirty smoke into the air. Pollution by SO, is now the most dangerous kind of air pollution. It is caused by heavy traffic. We are sure that if there are fewer people driving, there will be less air pollution. The earth is our home. We must take care of it. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}And we must take care of the rise in pollution at the same time.

    Here are some ideas for you on how to help others through volunteering.

    When people get older, it becomes harder to do many things, from walking to the store to doing the housework. Old people living alone can also feel lonely. As a volunteer. You can do a lot to help the old in your neighborhood. You could visit them and help them with their housework.

    Many people with disabilities need help. You could volunteer to read books to the blind or deliver(递送) something for people who can't get around too well.

    There are lots of volunteer jobs to do in hospitals and health care centers. As a volunteer, you can make beds, deliver flowers and gifts, help serve meals, and do lots of other important jobs.

    Some families don't have enough money to buy food and clothes for their kids. Some people don't have place to live at all. To help these people as a volunteer, you can give clothes, food or money t0, or raise money for, a charity(慈善机构).

    Sometimes people need more help when the holidays come. Holidays are happy, but for people who are alone or unlucky, they can be a lonely, hard time. As a volunteer, you can deliver holiday dinners to less lucky people, visit the lonely old people and serve food to the homeless.

    I like Africa very much. So my parents and I went to Africa last week. It was an interesting place. On Monday, I rode big elephants. They were big and friendly. I took many photos of them. On Tuesday, we went to visit Lake Victoria. At noon, my father and I collected wood(木柴)to make a fire. Then we had a picnic. We had a good time there. After that we went to the hotel. On Wednesday, we went to Tugella Fall by train. We had a long walk around it. All of us liked Tugella Tall very much. We took the plane back to Canada on Saturday. It was an exciting.
