The earth is a {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (行星)and it goes around the sun. Seven others also go around the sun. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (没有一个)of them has an {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (环境)like that of the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (地球), so scientists do not think they will find life on them. The sun and its planet are called the {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (太阳的)system, and ours is a small part of a much larger  {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (群, 组)of stars and planets, called the {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (星系).

    Scientists have also {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (发现)many others in the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (宇宙). They are very far away and their {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (光)has to travel for many years to reach us. So how large is it? It is impossible to imagine.

Beijing's Big Games

    What were you doing in 2008? Most of you were babies at that time. But that year was very important to China.

    The 29th Summer Olympic Games took p{#blank#}1{#/blank#} in Beijing from Aug 8 to 24, 2008. This was the f{#blank#}2{#/blank#} time for China to host(主办) the Summer Olympics. China w{#blank#}3{#/blank#} the most gold medals with 48. Athletes like Lin Dan, Guo Jingjing and Li Xiaopeng impressed the world w{#blank#}4{#/blank#} their outstanding performances(杰出表现). They not only brought glory (荣耀) to our c{#blank#}5{#/blank#}, but also showed how strong Chinese athletes are.

    The Olympic Games is one of the w{#blank#}6{#/blank#} biggest and most influential (有影响力的) sports events. Hosting the Olympics is c{#blank#}7{#/blank#} to be a great honor(光荣). It helps countries show their n{#blank#}8{#/blank#} power to the world. Meanwhile(同时), the world can get to know the host country b{#blank#}9{#/blank#}. In 2022, Beijing will host the Winter Olympics together with Zhangjiakou, Hebei. Beijing will become the first city in history to host b{#blank#}10{#/blank#} the Summer and Winter Games.
