After the birth of my second child, Igot a job at a restaurant. Having worked with an experienced waitress for a few months, I was 1  to wait tables on my own. All went 2 that first week. When Saturday night came, I was luckily given the table not far from the kitchen. 3, I still felt it a little hard to carry the heavy trays(托盘).

    Before I knew it, the restaurant was full of people. I moved slowly, minding every step. I remember how  4 I was when I saw the tray stand（支架） near the tables; it looked different from the one I was 5 on. It had nice handles, which made it  6 to move around. I was pleased with everything and began to believe I was natural at this job.

    Then, an old man came to me and said,“Excuse me, dear, my wife and I love watching you work. It seems your traystand has been very 7to you, but we are getting ready to leave now, and my wife needs her 8back. ”

At first his idea did not get across.“What was he talking about!” Then, I got it. I had set my trays on his wife'sorthopedic walker(助步器). Istood frozen as ice, but my face was 9 . I wanted to get into a hole and hide.

    Since then, I have learned from many mistakes such as the one I just 10 , I have learned to be more careful and not to be sure of myself.

    A little girl thought she was not beautiful and nobody liked her. So she was always 1 and didn't like to talk to others. However, one day, her mother 2  her a beautiful hair clip (发夹). When she wore it, she looked much more beautiful than before. She decided 3 it to school.

    On her way to school she found that 4 who saw her smiled at her. Most of her classmates said “hello” 5 her, but this never happened before. She thought that the beautiful hair clip had brought them all to her. She was so happy about all of the wonderful things.6 she didn't tell her classmates about her beautiful hair clip, they all wanted to know what had happened to her.

    When she went 7 home after school, her mother 8 her, “Did you know you dropped your hair clip? I found it by the door this morning.” At this time, the girl understood that she hadn't worn the hair clip to school at all.

    It is not important 9 we wear or how we look. The most important is how we think about 10.

    Tom hated school and was always looking for excuses not to go. If he sneezed(打喷嚏), he asked his mother1a note saying he had a cold.

    If he had a2, he asked his mother to take him to the3during school hours.

    He4more time at home than he did at school.

    On the5that he did go to school, he looked for excuses to come home early.

    One day he came home from school6the morning. His father was surprised.

    "You're home early, "he said." Is the school7today?"

    "No. Dad" Tom said "It's open. I came home early."

    "8did you do that?" his father asked him. "What did you say to your teacher?"

    "I told her that I had a new baby brother and I 9come home and help you."

    "But your mother has had10." his father said, "a boy and a girl. You've got a baby brother and a baby sister."

    "Yes, I know, Dad." Tom said, "I'm saving up(积攒)my baby sister for next week."

    With a hat by his feet, a blind boy sat on the steps of a building. He held up a sign which said," I'm blind, please help."

    Only a few people put1in the hat. A man was walking by. He dropped some coins into the hat, then turned the sign2wrote some words, put the sign back and left.

    Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people began to give money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man came to see3things were going. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, " Were you the one who 4 my sign this morning? What did you write?"

    The man said, I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a(n)5way." What he wrote was. "Today is a beautiful day, but I cannot see it."

    Both the6told people that the boy was blind. But the first sign simply told people to help by throwing some money into the7. The second one, 8, told people that they were able to enjoy the beauty of the day. But the boy couldn't.

    There are at least two lessons we can learn9this story. First, be thankful for what you have. Someone else has less Help them if you can. 10, be creative. Think differently. There is always a better way.

    Every year, our school has a dance for all the students. It's a little funny seeing friends in clean shoes and trousers or colorful dresses, instead of the usual school uniform.

    Most of us think the dance is great fun-even the teachers enjoy being there. 1, two weeks ago someone said that there would be no live band this year-only CDs.

    "I don't believe it！"Amy cried out during the lunch break, "Someone said the school couldn't2a band, and they think it's too noisy anyway," added Daniel.

    "Well, I don't think it's good enough without a band!" said Angela, "and I'm going to see what can be done."

    Angela was as good as her word. In the afternoon she went3to see the school headmaster who agreed to give the situation some more thought. And he suggested that one possibility for having a band was to increase the price ticket from $ 5 to $ 10. Angela had to find out whether the students would like to do that.

    "I need all of you to help me," she told our group before school the next day.

    "Mr Berry gave me a list of all the names, and suggested we ask each other their4about the band and the extra cost." During the day we asked around as Angela suggested and wrote down people's feelings about the band and the cost.

    We were amazed how much support there was for the band and5agreed to pay the extra $5, "I'm surprised." smiled Mr Berry, when we gave him the results. "I really thought that only a few people wanted their band and that the cost would be too high. OK. Angela, your next task is to find a good band and line them up for the dance."

    Angela jumped6and broke the news to Amy and Daniel. "You're amazing, "smiled Daniel to Angela as he thought how close they came to having a less than perfect dance.
