Do you know He Jiong? Lots of young people in our country know him and the programme Happy Camp.

    He Jiong was born in 1974. When He Jiong was in the high school, he was famous as a radio host(主持人). In 1990, he worked for Hunan Economy(经济) Radio. He began to study in Beijing Foreign Language University in 1992. After graduation in 1997, he worked in the university as a teacher. In 1998, he began to host a programme on Hunan TV. It's called Happy Camp. Stars from all over the country come to this programme. They tell their stories or play games with the viewers(观众). The programme is so popular that it wins many prizes.

    Helen Keller was born in 1880 in the USA. When she was about 19 months old, she got very ill. After many weeks, the doctor told her parents, "Your daughter is better, but now she can't see and she can't hear." Her mother and her father were very sad. After a few years, things got worse. There was no way for Helen to speak to other people. She heard nothing. She didn't understand anything.

    Then one day a teacher came. Her name was Anne Sullivan She lived with Helen and her family. The teacher helped Helen learn words. Helen was a very clever child and soon she learned to spell her first word. When she was older, she went to college.

    Helen was a very famous woman when she died. The world remembers her today as a brave and wonderful person. She was blind and deaf, but she found a way to see and hear. It helped many people in the world.

Once, a gentleman （绅士） was traveling on a bus. ⑴He felt thirsty and got off at a station in search of water. However, before he got back to the bus, it left and he missed it. The man decided to find a place for a day's stay. He went to the nearby hotels to ask for a room but found none. 

At last he reached a small hut （小屋）. He asked the owner of the hut

⑵____he could stay in his house for a day or not. The owner agreed. On that day the owner served him food and gave him a room to stay in, but did not ask for or expect anything in return. 

⑤At night when it was about eight o'clock, the gentleman heard a knock at the door. The owner opened the door. A well—dressed man entered and asked the owner to pay his debts （债务）. 

The gentleman came to know that the owner was in need of money. The next morning he left some money and a note on the table in the room and left. 

When the owner saw the money, he found that there was also a note. It read, "You helped me but did not expect anything from me. Yesterday I heard the conversation between you and the stranger and came to know that you were in need of money. This is what you need. "

Zhang Li, a 12-year-old boy, from Sichuan, was lazy before. He hardly ever did any housework. But now, things have changed. Washing dishes, cooking and making the bed... all of these have become important parts of his daily life.

This big change is the result of a new program at his school. Starting from last term, his school asked all the students to do housework. It wanted to help students to improve their life skills.

At the beginning of each month, every student gets a list of housework to do every weekend. Their parents help keep an eye on their performance. They can do housework, such as washing cups and cooking food. On holidays like Mother's Day, students should prepare gifts for their mothers.

Wang Dan, 13, has learned several life skills through the program. "I was afraid of fire," she said. But she tried to overcome her fear(害怕) and finish her cooking tasks. At the same time, she also learned how tired her mother is after doing housework every day. On Mother's Day, she made a cake for her mother to show her thanks. "I've begun to know better about my parents and want to help them more." she said.

Other schools in Sichuan are also developing (发展) programs to teach their students life skills. On May 2, another middle school held a life skill competition. Students had to finish many tasks, such as cooking and washing clothes. They showed their skills and proved that they are growing up.
