举一反三

One day after school, I went to the teacher's office to see my teacher, but nobody was there. As I was about to leave, I noticed a piece of paper on the floor. I picked it up and saw the words "FINAL-TERM EXAMINATION" at the top. I put the paper into my school bag secretly and ran out of the room.

After I came back home, I took out the paper quickly. It was the exam paper of my worst subject, History. I felt excited. My heart beat fast. I took out my History book and started working on the answer. I had never answered any questions so seriously.

On the day of the History exam, I went into the exam hall confidently. When the paper was sent to me, I dreamt of getting the highest mark in the whole grade and could not help smiling. "My History teacher always encouraged me to work hard and get better grades, but I let him down time and time again. This time I will give him a big surprise," I thought.

When  the  teacher  said  we could  start,  I turned  the  paper  over. To my surprise,  all  the questions were different. Later I felt nervous. In the end, I almost left the paper undone. After the exam. I ran to the toilet, took out the paper and carefully read it from the top. Oh! It was last year's exam paper. I read all the questions but I hadn't read the date.

This is a lesson in which I know I have to put my feet on the ground. I regretted doing such a silly thing. After that, I told my teacher the truth and I promised to be honest. From then on, I worked harder than ever before.

It's not easy to be an astronaut's son. Everybody expects you to be special or perfect. I often wonder how my father ever had a son like me. I mean he's so special and so good at everything he does. Even in middle school he was class president and captain of the football team.
Well, to be honest, I often dream about being some kind of hero or doing something special—like saving a child from a burning building or discovering a new star. I was daydreaming at school one morning when my teacher said there would be a Father's Day writing competition for the whole school. “I hope we have a winner right here in my class.”
When I got home, I started to think about what to write. My father is an astronaut. No, I wouldn't start like that. That was the way others saw him. How did I see my father? Hmm.
I saw him sitting with me in the dark when I had a terrible dream. I remembered how he hugged me for hours when my dog Spotty was killed by a car. Yes, these were the things I was going to write. To me, he wasn't just a world—famous astronaut. He was my dad.
My parents and I went to school on Thursday night. There were so many people in the big hall! My dad looked at me, and I shrugged(耸肩).
The third prize was announced and it was not me. I was relieved(释然) and disappointed at the same time. The second prize was announced. It was me.
I went up to the stage and read what I had written,“My father's son”. When I finished, the people stood up and cheered. I saw my father blowing his nose. Tears were running down my mother's face. Dad cleared his throat and put his hand on my shoulder. "Son, this is the proudest moment of my life."
It was the proudest moment of my life, too. Maybe I'll never be a great hero or win a Nobel Prize, but it was enough just to be my father's son.

The Sahara Desert in Northern Africa is the largest hot desert in the world. It is about 1,800km from the north to the south and about 4,800 km from the east to the west. Temperatures can reach 58℃ in the daytime and can fall to ﹣6℃ at night. More than 8,000 years ago,the Sahara was a rich land where farmers grew food and plants grew well. As the rainfall in the area gradually went down every year,it became a huge desert. Most areas of this desert have less than 13 cm of rain every year.

Gary Smith and a few of his brave friends decided to hike across the Sahara. Supporters in cars,who carried food and water for the group,stayed with them together.

One day,Smith walked alone and then he couldn't find the rest of the group. Even worse,he could not find out which direction to go. Then a sandstorm covered the area. When the storm was over,Smith was even more worried. In the heat that he couldn't stand,he quickly finished his water. He had to spend that night out in the open,and he almost felt he couldn't survive (生存).

The next day,he walked on. After the second night,he started to worry about dying. He realized that his friends might not find him in time. It was late on the third day that Smith lost his sense and fell over.

When Smith awoke,he was in the car with his friends. He had been found by a group of Bedouin who were traveling in a truck. In such a large desert with the weather conditions, this made it possible for him to survive. Then Bedouin returned to his group of friends. Smith was so lucky.
