Ever since I entered YYHS, I have been struggling with the courses I take, in particular math. Although much effort has been put into math, I can't see any sign of improvement. Every day, I sit in the classroom, looking at the math teacher {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(困惑地). In a sense, I can {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(被称为) an idiot in learning math. Worse still, there are countless unknown fields {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(来探索) in my spare time. Last weekend, we took a math exam and scored only 78, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(这使我很受挫和绝望). YYHS, originally known as the Eighth School, {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(属于) the list of first provincial key schools in Hubei province. {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(被包围) talented students here, I feel highly pressured all the time. At times, an idea pops up into my mind that I may as well {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(摆脱) this renowned school. How I wish I could learn in a relaxed atmosphere, where I can have my learning schedule {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(调整) a little bit {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（如果可能）. When I shared my idea with my parents the other day, they urged me to {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(抛弃) all my troubles and {#blank#}11{#/blank#}(留心) in each class. Without their support, I had to stay and commit myself to my work. Whatever challenge comes my way, I will face it bravely. Should I fail in the future, I can {#blank#}12{#/blank#}(接管) my family business. After all, just as the saying goes, "All roads lead to Rome."

I was a lecturer for 10 years when I met my greatest teacher. It wasn't in a 1 but in a hospital. She was my daughter Kelsey.

She was born with congenital cerebral palsy（先天性脑瘫). At four, she still 2 to tie her shoes. It was 3 for her. After three years of 4 , Kelsey made it. Her accomplishment taught me that pace wasn't going to be crucial—achieving goals according to her own 5matters most.

At age 5, she won a battle against cancer. Kelsey 6 through creative play. In the hospital, the game was always "restaurant" with her playing waitress and the rest of us 7 as customers. She enjoyed herself in the 8 for several hours 9 , as if we weren't in the hospital at all. At home, the play turned to "hospital." Her game included medical terms even we adults didn't understand. We'd just play along as she 10 herself in her roles.

At six, she wished to take ballet lessons. I'm embarrassed to admit how much this 11 me. I wasn't just afraid for her body, but for her 12 .

I worried about the 13 she might get from the class. But she wouldn't 14 and the expectation in her eyes 15 all the drawbacks, so we enrolled her in a ballet school.

Kelsey danced with 16 ! Did she fall? Of course. Was she awkward? Very. But she was completely 17 by her situation. The sheer joy of dancing was enough. After four years, she 18 to horse riding. This time, I signed her up without 19 .

Now a seventh grader, Kelsey continues to embrace her life and teach us invaluable 20 about persistence and the power we could never have otherwise.

Kelsey, I'll never have a greater teacher!

For about three years now, I have been writing poetry. It was not until my junior year in high school that I developed an interest, love and skill for writing poetry. 

Back in elementary school, I loved to write stories. I would write stories on post-it notes and anywhere I could. Yet when I had to write a limerick(五行打油诗) for an assignment, I could not wrap my head around poetry. I had a very hard time figuring out how to rhyme words and have the words make sense. I eventually tossed the paper with the attempted limerick in the trash. I did not try my hand at poetry again until several years later. 

Many years later in my freshman year of high school, my English teacher gave my class a poetry project as an assignment. I still remember my limerick assignment and was afraid of doing the poetry project. For the project, we had to analyse a poem and write a response to it. I chose to respond to Robert Frost's poem Fire and Ice. I also wrote my own poem first. I became really excited when writing the poem. 

Two years later, I started writing poetry as a hobby and for fun. To learn how good or bad my poems were, I handed them in to some magazines and contests. I won the second place in the North Carolina Poetry Society's Sherry Pruitt Award Contest, and had my two poems published as high quality poems. I have continued to write poetry, and have even self-published three collections of poetry in both print and e-book formats, which can be found in my store on Lulu. 

Now, I love writing poetry, but I don't hate writing short stories. I just find it more difficult and not my style of writing, even though I still write short stories occasionally. 

Whenever our teachers or parents asked about our hobbies at childhood, my friends and I would always express our love for reading. However, with the development of high technology, our lives are gradually 1 by electronic screens of all sizes. They attract our attention like magnets（磁铁）and gradually 2 us from the world of books.

There was a time when I felt like my life went downhill, and with increased 3 from school, physical tiredness and emotional burdens（负担）, I had to watch short 4 to distract（分散）myself from those troubles.

This situation changed when one day I 5 a book called The Grapes of Wrath by a US writer. When I opened the cover and started reading, I felt like being hit 6 on my head. The wonderful story and beautiful writing attracted me. Although the characters in the book face 7 survival challenges, they still try to live in hard times and struggle for their dreams. This 8 spirit deeply inspired me, allowing me to gradually 9 my confidence in the future.

Now I carry this book either at the dining table or during school breaks. As a student who has a（n）10 of making films, this book also gave me creative 11 . The historical scenes described in the book and the deep human nature 12 within opened a door to the hall of art for me, allowing me to understand that reading cannot only 13 the spirit, but also cause creativity.

Why should we choose to ignore（忽视）such 14 like this book? Finally, I would like to appeal to my peers to protect our eyes and minds, and make 15 choices between books and screens.

It was a typical weekend for Mitch White and his friends. They were out celebrating a bachelor party, sailing the peaceful waters of the Minnesota River. They never expected that this single party would transform from a relaxed canoe trip into a painful rescue mission. With the sun setting, an unexpected bark changed everything.

Led by Mitch White, the soon-to-be-married man, they searched for the source of the sound along the banks of the river. Suddenly, a weak cry for help came from the mud. They were surprised to find that the head of a 13-year-old St. Bernard named Ed was barely visible in the thick mud. Mitch said, "The dog wasn't moving on its own, so we should feed it and give it water. " The dog looked like i had used all its strength.

The men took up their oars（桨） and began digging, their festive mood giving way to a focused rescue mission. It took them more than half an hour to free the trapped dog as it was already breathing very feebly after possibly being trapped for 24 hours. When they got the poor fellow out of the mud, he couldn't walk, so they carried him back to the house. Back home with his owner, George Niskanen, Ed began his slow restoration-a happy ending to a dangerous adventure. George was thankful to the bachelor party heroes.

Now, the people of Carver, Minnesota, have new heroes to cheer for. Indeed, this incredible act of bravery and compassion redefined the meaning of a bachelor party. It became a heroic tale of humanity, friendship, and the instinct（本能）to do what's right.
