Several years ago I was at a train station waiting in line to buy a ticket. As I stood there I saw a young man asking people for money so that he could buy his breakfast. Most of the travelers simply {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(ignore) the young man or gave {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (he) a dirty look, yet a well-dressed middle-age man reacted differently. When {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (draw) near by the young man, the gentleman looked {#blank#}4{#/blank#}  him and quietly asked, “How much will you need?” I couldn't hear {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the young man said but watched as the gentleman pulled several {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (note) from his wallet and {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(calm) placed them in the young man's hands.

    I don't know whether the young man actually used the money for his breakfast or for {#blank#}8{#/blank#}purpose. What I do know is that I saw two different reactions to the same situation. I saw people who {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(be) either afraid or annoyed. And then I saw the gentleman who was not afraid and treated the homeless young man as though he were a brother. I decided then and there that, even though we have to be {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (care) in this world, I would rather be like the gentleman.

    This story took place in 1903. Adam, an American businessman, was carried out to sea by a strong wind. A ship {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (spot) and rescued him, {#blank#}2{#/blank#}  was how he got to London by accident. He at once went to the American embassy {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (ask) for help, but was refused. Two rich gentlemen invited him home because of a bet. They asked Adam a few questions, and Adam responded {#blank#}4{#/blank#} a polite manner. They gave him a letter and asked him not to open it until two pm. Adam left wondering {#blank#}5{#/blank#} would happen to him.

    On December 19th, 2010, an airbus took off from the capital airport of Saudi Arabia. After about an hour's flight, something {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (believe) happened on the plane. The air hostess was about to serve lunch {#blank#}2{#/blank#} a small mouse stole out from the bag of a young man, which frightened the young woman nearby and she shouted loudly. Then more and more mice came out of {#blank#}3{#/blank#}bag. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(catch) by surprise, the other passengers all shouted in panic. The steward managed to get in touch with the control center on the ground. With the order from the ground, the plane {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(success) landed at the nearest airport. As soon as the plane was on the ground, all the passengers got off. Then seven specialists got on the plane {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(kill) the mice. Many means had been tried but {#blank#}7{#/blank#} of them were good enough.

    At last, they tried to fill in the plane {#blank#}8{#/blank#} carbon-dioxide, which poisoned all the mice. It {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (report) that the young man wanted to carry the mice to another city and sell them as {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(pet), but he didn't expect they succeeded in escaping from the bag.

    People realize that, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} animals may not have the same intelligence as human beings, they are smart enough to learn certain things.

    Dogs are {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (extreme) useful as companions for blind people. When a dog has been properly trained, he will always lead his master {#blank#}3{#/blank#} the right direction and keep him out of danger.

    Horses are also able to learn many things. Horses that are used for guard or police duty must learn never to {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (frighten) of noises, traffic, and other disturbances. Racing horses are also quite strong. Therefore, it is necessary for those people {#blank#}5{#/blank#} train them to be very patient and understanding.

    The moving pictures and television can use {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (train) animals too. Some animals, such as monkeys and foxes, are easy to film. {#blank#}7{#/blank#} you have to do is make a trail in front of the camera by dragging something that smells good to {#blank#}8{#/blank#} animals over the ground. Big animals, such as lions and tigers, can be photographed as they bound happily back to {#blank#}9{#/blank#} families and dinner. If a movie actor is nearby, the well-trained animal will pay no attention to him. {#blank#}10{#/blank#}, the audience may imagine that the actor escaped a terrible death by the skin of his teeth.

    Once upon a time, a powerful king commanded his men {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (build) a public arena where crime was punished or innocence(无罪) was decided. When a person {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (accuse) of a crime, his future would be judged in the public arena.

    Usually the king sat high up on his chair. He gave {#blank#}3{#/blank#} sign and a door under him opened. The accused person stepped out into the arena. Opposite the king {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (be) two doors. The person on trial(审判) had to walk {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (direct) to these doors and open one of them. He could open whichever door he pleased. If the accused man opened one door, out came a hungry tiger, the {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (fierce)(凶猛的) in the land. The tiger immediately jumped on him and tore him into pieces as {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (punish) for his guilt. The case of the suspect was thus decided. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} , if the accused opened the other door, there came a woman. To this lady he was immediately married, in honor of his innocence.

    This was the king's method of {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (carry) out justice. Its fairness appeared perfect. The accused person could not know which door was hiding the lady. He opened either as he pleased, without knowing {#blank#}10{#/blank#} he was to be killed or married

    We high school students do have some growing pains, but we can get rid of them{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (correct) and wisely. First, some of us are upset about our body style and looks. It's unnecessary and it's not important at all. We needn't care about it. It is one's inner beauty that{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (matter). Second, we sometimes seem to be misunderstood by our teachers, parents and classmates. Faced with this, we can find a proper time to have a heart-to-heart talk with them, trying to remove the misunderstanding. Some of us have fewer friends, I think being open-minded and friendly will do us good. Third, we may fall behind others, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} makes us stressed. Actually we can encourage{#blank#}4{#/blank#} to work efficiently, full of{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (determine). At last, some of us don't have much pocket money, so they feel unhappy. Isn't it strange? So long as we have some, that's enough. And we can learn how to spend money.
