One hot summer day, I bought a small boat when my family spent vacation enjoying the beaches of beautiful Gulf shores(岸). Both of my daughters played {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(happy) all day in the boat. Later the little one got tired. So I took her to our tent on the sand as my elder girl still played in the boat. But{#blank#}2{#/blank#}boat my elder daughter in was gradually moving far out from the shore. I called to her to come closer to the shore and she seemed to be {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (worry) and afraid. All she could do was to paddle(用桨划船) hard to one side, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}the boat was just making small circles.

I stood as far out in the water and kept {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(shout) instructions to her. Luckily, some{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(visitor) in a boat not far from her noticed and started to help her immediately.

I'm not a good swimmer but I decided to have a try. I didn't stop swimming until I couldn't feel {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(I) moving. But I always kept my eyes on her.{#blank#}8{#/blank#}the help of these kind people, I finally made my way back pulling her and calming her.

So far, I {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(learn) through the experience that maybe we think we are not strong enough sometimes, but{#blank#}10{#/blank#}we trust ourselves and take the first step, we'll have all the power we need.

I wrote a note to my parents when I was a young boy. I didn't write anything to them before.

That night, I just had a strong desire to let Mom and Dad know how much I loved them, how much they meant to me, and how thankful I was for what they gave me. Because I was too shy to tell them my feelings face to face, I wrote the note and put it on the desk in their bedroom. I couldn't wait to make therm see the note soon. I imagined bow they would feel after they read the note thousands of times before going to bed!

Early the next morning, I heard a soft knock at my door, As soon as I opened the door, I found my mom and dad standing outside.They kissed me and thanked me for the note. Mom said that she was thinking I was a little child, but to her surprise, I grow into a young boy unconsciously. Dad said he was happy that I could share my true feelings with them.

Seeing the smiles on their faces made me laugh happily.At the same time, I was surprised that my simple words could teach them so much.On that day,I saw my dad cry for the first time. The beautiful memory stayed in my heart from then on.

Qian Xuesen was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province on December 11, 1911. He left Hangzhou at the age of three when his father obtained a post in Beijing. He graduated from the High School Affiliated to Beijing Normal University and attended Shanghai Jiaotong University. There, he received a degree in mechanical engineering with an emphasis on railroad administration.

After his graduation from Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1934, he travelled across the Pacific Ocean to the United States for further study. There he received his PhD degrees in both aerospace and mathematics. After he graduated, he became a professor as well as a researcher who studied rockets and missile theories.

In 1949, when the news of the birth of the People's Republic of China came to the United States, Qian Xuesen and his wife decided to return to China. In 1950, when they were ready to return home, they were stopped by US officials and sent to prison. With the help of Chinese government and his friends, he finally returned home.

When he returned to China in 1955, our country's space research was almost a blank. In 1956, he set up the first research institute of rockets and missiles. From then on, he was in charge of developing China's missile, rocket and spacecraft research programs. He was a pioneer in these related fields and was honored as "The father of China's missiles". He is the pride of the Chinese people. He made important contributions to the missile and space programs in China.

He passed away on October 31, 2009, at the age of 98, but he is a man who still encourages Chinese youth. His devotion to our country was expressed in his saying. "My career is in China, my success is in China and my destination is in China!" When someone said he could make much more money if he stayed in the United States, he laughed and said, "My family name is Qian, but I don't like qian."

A Chinese film production, Qian Xuesen, directed by Zhang Jianya and starring Chen Kun as Qian Xuesen, was released on December 11, 2011 in both Asia and North America, and on March 2, 2012 in China.
