Butterflies are common all over the world, but butterflies in hotter countries are usually bigger and more brightly colored than those in cooler countries, and they are more different kinds.

Usually the male(雄性的)butterflies are more brightly colored than the females. The females have bigger and heavier bodies since they carry the eggs. The bright colors of the males help to attract the females, and the duller(较暗淡的)colors of the females make them less likely(可能的)to be caught by enemies before they have laid their eggs.

Some butterflies hare bright pattern colors on the upper surface of their wings that show when flying, but when they rest on a tree or leaves, they close their wings. On the undersides of their wings there are green and brown marks which look like the tree or leaves. They are then difficult to be seen. The best example of this is the Dead Leaf Butterfly. When its wings are closed, it looks exactly like a dead leaf. There are even marks that look like the holes in a dead leaf. When the butterfly is run after by a bird, it closes its wings and seems to have disappeared completely.

Many butterflies have round marks on their wings that look like eyes. The round marks have a useful function(功能). When the butterflies are resting, their wings are closed, and these marks can't be seen. When a bird sees one, and begins to attack it, the butterfly will open its wings. The bird thinks that it sees two eyes staring at it, frightened, and flies away.

(1)、The female butterflies have bigger and heavier bodies than the males because _________ .
A、the females carry the eggs B、the females eat more C、the males are more active D、the males have smaller wings
(2)、The duller colors of the female butterflies _________ .
A、help to fly easily B、help to attract the males C、make them look fearful. D、make them harder to be caught
(3)、The underlined word "that " in Paragraph 3 refers to _________ .
A、their wings B、pattern colors C、green leaves D、some butterflies
(4)、When run after by a bird, the Dead Leaf Butterfly _________ .
A、is frightened and flies away at once B、opens its eyes and stares at the bird C、closes its wings and seems to have gone D、opens its wings to frighten the bird away
(5)、The last paragraph mainly tells us _________ .
A、why the butterfly cannot be seen B、how the butterfly opens its wings C、what the round marks look like D、what the function of the round marks is

"Can I have a glass of hot water?" This is a very common question in a restaurant for many Chinese people, nothing is more common than drinking hot water every day. However the simple habit is hard for people from other countries to understand.

For many Westerners, the idea of drinking hot water is very strange. However, most Chinese people think the Americans' habit of drinking ice water is also strange and even unhealthy. Some old people in China would carry a kettle(水壶) when they travel. Chinese doctors advise more people to take on the habit of drinking hot water especially for women.

But in Western countries, drinking hot water isn't common. Westerners often have drinks with ice, not just on hot days but almost every day.

There is a story online about an American who has been in Beijing for over five years. He visited a local restaurant after going back to America. He asked for a glass of hot water, but this request(要求) surprised the waitress, "To...to...to drink?" she asked him. Finally the man received the hot water but felt cold stares from every corner of the restaurant

Westerners wonder why Chinese people drink hot water as Chinese wonder why Westerners drink cold water. This cultural difference is not a simple problem, but related to(与......有关联) history, culture and science.

As a matter of fact, many Chinese teenagers now like bottled water for daily drinking. With teenagers growing up, will drinking hot water become a less popular life habit in China?

A tornado (龙卷风) is a kind of strong storm with air which moves in a circle quickly.  They can move over 200 miles per hour and cause a lot of damage.  As they move across the land, they can easily pick up cars, trucks, and even houses, and then throw them very far.  It is important to find a safe place if a tornado gets close.

A safe place could be a basement or the lowest floor.  If you are in a home without a basement, try to find a first-floor bathroom or a small room without windows in the middle of your house.  You should curl up (蜷缩) into a ball and cover your head and neck with your hands.

But there are some people who actually want to get close to tornadoes.  They are scientists who want to learn more about tornadoes.  One of the best ways to do this is to get as close as possible to the tornado.  They use special tools to measure (测量) what is happening in and around a tornado.

One special tool is called a tornado probe (探测仪).  Inside the tornado probe, there are sensors (传感器) to measure wind speed, temperature, pressure, and direction.  Some probes even have cameras, so the scientists can see and understand what it's like to be in a tornado.

To be able to get these measurements, the scientists have to get a tornado probe near or into a tornado.  Scientists will try to guess where a tornado will go next.  Then they drive to that location and put down the probe.  If they do not guess correctly, they pick up their probe and try another place.  If they are right, the tornado will go near or even right over the probe.  Then they take all of the measurements from the probe and use them to predict where future tornadoes may form and travel.  And they can give people some warning to keep away from a dangerous tornado.
