Granny Sarya lived outside Moscow. Her only son 1 to Afghanistan(阿富汗) and was killed in action there.Soon after that, her husband lost his job. The old man was always 2 food and clothes.And on a winter night he went out alone when Sarya was asleep. The next morning he was 3 dead in a cold lake. And his worn-out coat was 4 in a tree not far away. Sarya was so 5 that she nearly took her own life.

    Things got worse and worse after that. She always lived in hunger and cold. She had hoped that the government(政府) could help her but she 6 .

    It was a cold windy night. The old woman couldn't 7 asleep at all. She had to get up. She decided to write a letter to God(神), asking for 8 . She wished God to give her 100 rubles (卢布), so she could buy some food for herself. When she 9 writing it, she found she had no 10 . She had to put the 11 at a crossing. 12 the next morning a policeman found the letter. He read it to his comrades.They were all so 13 that they gathered some rubles and sent them to the poor old woman.

    At first Granny Sarya was happy. But after she 14 the money, she became 15 and said, "I'm told that all things that are touched by the policeman will be only a half left!"

     Mr. Green was unfriendly. Kids were afraid of going into his garden to pick an apple because he would run after them 1 with his gun (枪).

    One day, 12-year-old Janet walked out with her friend Amy. They had to 2 Mr. Green's house. 3 they got close, Janet saw him sitting at his front door. Like most kids, 4 was afraid of the old man. But Amy said, "Don't 5."

    When they got close enough Mr. Green took an unfriendly look 6, but when he saw Amy, he gave a big smile. Amy 7 back and told him that Janet was her best friend and they were going to listen to music and play games. Mr. Green said that 8 fun, and gave them each an apple.

Later, Janet asked Amy in 9, "Why was he so nice to us?"

    Amy replied "At first I was 10, too. But my grandma told me not to be afraid and to imagine that he was smiling at me."

    "11 a smile?" asked Janet.

    "Yes. If I smile back at 12, sooner or later he will really smile," continued Amy. "After some time, he started giving real smiles and 13 talked to me. Now, he always gives me a(n) 14, and is always very kind."

    If we remember to smile at others, most people can't 15 our smiles and they will smile back.

    "Come here, boys and girls! Story time," says Ms Lee to the class.

Great! The children love 1 very much. They all sit around Ms Lee, and she 2 the story. Then, FatherChristmas (圣诞老人) comes.

    "Excuse me, is Aaron in the 3?" he asks.

    Everyone looks at Aaron. He walks up to Father Christmas and says, "I'm Aaron. Do I 4 you?"

    "Get the beard (胡须) off my face, and you will know me."

    Aaron is very curious (好奇的), 5 he gets the beard off Father Christmas' face. 6 does he see? His father!

    Aaron's father is a soldier (士兵). He 7 goes back home. This year he has a long holiday. He can 8 with his family. It's great. He dresses up 9 Father Christmas and comes to Aaron's school.

    Aaron is 10 to see his father. It's a great Christmas present for him.

    I am a book lover. So my house is forever full of1. I have new ones, old ones,

    hardcovers, paperbacks,2and non-stories. I have three boxes of books in my closet, two boxes of books on the floor of my bedroom, and a box of children's books 3 for my future grandchildren. I have even more books4the two I wrote on my desk. I try to keep the books 5 building up by donating as many as I can to the local 6, but as soon as I donate a few, I find myself buying a few more.

    Books I read keep my mind young, my heart7, and my soul bright. They bring me knowledge, laughter and joy. They connect me with the wisdom(智慧)of the past and the new ideas of the8.They keep me moving on the right path as I journey through life.

    I have learned that people are a lot like books as well. Some have bright and shiny covers, 9don't have very much to say inside of them.10look old and plain but so full of wisdom and light that reading them can11your whole life. One difference between books and people, though, is that while a book has an ending, the writing inside of us12forever

    Take care when writing the book of your own life. Fill it with love for yourself, others, and this world.  Fill it with all the wisdom you have learned, goodness you have done, 13you have shared, and joy you have14. Keep writing it every day, too. Make it everything you are and everything you want to be, and then open it to15. I know it will be a wonderful and fantastic book.
