What will life in the future be like? Will it be much better than it is now? And what will we be able to do in 10, 20 or 30 years' time?

Genetic engineering (基因工程)may help us make the perfect human. Babies may grow up to play basketball like Yao Ming or look like Cecilia Cheung. Also, we may be able to bring the dead back to life. Maybe people will be able to meet and talk with their dead family members.

Over the next 20 to 50 years, it will become harder to tell the difference between humans and machines. Perhaps we will be able to make copies of ourselves, so we will appear to be alive long after we are dead. People may be able to find ways of putting the life of a person into a new body.

Nanobots(纳米机器人)will be important. We will use them when we are sick. For example, when we have a stomachache, we will swallow (吞下) a nanobot and it will travel through our stomach, taking a video of what's happening there. The video will help the doctor cure us.

In the future, computers may have their feelings. They may be able to think better than us. We may be more and more interested in computers and the internet, spending all our time in front of computers. Perhaps we will forget our real needs. Perhaps we will become super couch potatoes weighing 250 kg!

举一反三
Roosegaarde, an artist and designer from Dutch has thought of a device(装置). He hopes it will make Beijing's sky clear again and help the people with masks breathe fresh air again in Beijing.
An electromagnetic field(电磁场) will pull the dirty particles in the air to the ground, and then they can be easily cleaned.
Roosegaarde says, "It's like when you have a balloon which has static electricity(静电) and your hair goes toward it. Smog happens the same way as the hair."
His workplace has reached an agreement with the Beijing government to test the technology in one of the capital's parks.  Beijing's skies are regularly covered by grey smog. Serious cases of air pollution are often reported in Beijing. Roosegaarde says an indoor test has already shown it works well and he is confident of the results. With the help of a team of scientists and engineers, he is sure that the device can be worked outside.
"Beijing is a very good place to test the device because the smog in Beijing is quite low and there's not so much wind." says Roosegaarde. "We'll be able to make the air pure but the most difficult thing is to remove the smog. As a result, you can see the sun again."
Roosegaarde also reminds us that his aim is not only to give a plan to solve Beijing's dirty air pollution but also to make people pay attention to the environment problem. He adds, "This is not the real answer for smog. The real answer to do with it is clean cars, different industry and different lifestyles. " However, he hopes the project will make the citizens realize the differences between clean air and smog-filled air.

It's common to wonder sometimes, "What if something goes wrong? " It's important to recognize (识别) that thought and manage it so that you don't lose yourselves in the worry. Worrying about the future is a normal part of life. From time to time, everyone wonders what would happen if something doesn't go to plan: "What if I make a mistake? " or "What if everyone laughs at me? ". These "what-if" worries focus on a bad result. Spending a lot of time "what if-ing" makes you not want to do things, and it can make it hard to pay attention to what you're doing or what people are saying.

There are different ways you can help yourself. Expert Angela McMillan suggests creating an "IF/THEN" plan. "For example," she says, "IF you have to stand up in front of the class, THEN you will take three deep breaths and remind yourself you have prepared and you're OK. Or IF the social event is really noisy and you don't know what to do, THEN you can step outside for a few minutes." You can also know what you're worrying about and then challenge it. Try thinking about what could go right. For example, instead of thinking "What if I miss the ball when I try to kick it?" You should ask "What if I score a goal?"

McMillan points out that most worries never happen. "Remember they are thoughts and the bravest thing we can do is to not let the worry win," she says. Try to focus your attention on what you're doing. That could be the book you're reading, the TV show you're watching or the conversation you're having. Getting angry with yourself will make you feel worse, so be kind to yourself. Think about how you would talk to your classmate who is feeling worried — and then speak to yourself in that same way.
