My mother looked at me seriously. “Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn't it?” she asked thoughtfully. I nodded. “And that is  7  of people, too,” she added.When I   8  that she had guessed my pain, I started to cry and told her the truth. “But you will be a wonderful narrator,” she said,    9  me of how much I loved to read stories'aloud.     Once there were several scientists in a forest. They were trying to 1 the rarest animal in the world. No one had seen it, so everyone was 2 and wanted to be the first one to photograph and study it.

    The animal only came out at night, 3 the scientists did some other studies in the day. 4 them, there was a famous scientist named Walter. Every day, he would spend an hour sitting at the desk and putting all his equipment (设备) in the 5 place. He did this carefully. But other scientists laughed at him because they thought Walter was just wasting 6.

    One night, the animal appeared 7. The scientists heard its call. But the call didn't last long. The animal was frightened by the 8  made by the scientists while they were scrabbling (忙乱地找) for their cameras and notebooks.

“Sir, are you hiring people?”I went 3the shop and asked. “Yes, but you should be the man who we need,” the manager answered. He looked at me for a few 4 from head to foot. “Do you have a high school diploma(文凭)?5he, “Or do you have any work experience?” I felt so ashamed and 6that I didn't know what to say, so I just turned around and left. Now I am still working in the same store. With this experience, I always14people to attend school. Education helps you have a bright future. Now I am not worried about my future because I'm still15 in my spare time.

    "You're doing it all wrong," said Ryan.

    "You're nuts!" shouted Tom. "I'm the best jumper there ever was!"

    "Then why can't you touch the doorframe (门框)?"

    "It's 1, okay?"

    Tom looked straight up. The doorframe was ten feet high. 2 could jump high enough to touch it, even older kids. But Ryan had dared (激某人做某事) Tom that he couldn't do it, and so Tom had to 3.

    He muttered, "I'm the best jumper there ever was."

    It all started one day last year, a Frisbee (飞盘) was stuck in a tree. It was so 4 that nobody could get it. And Tom stood way back from the tree and got a running start.     Tom gritted his teeth, tensed his legs and threw his body up into the air. And he 11 fell short by at least two feet.

    "It's impossible," he said.

    "Ha! I knew it."

    "Excuse me?"

    "Neither of us can jump high enough to touch it alone, but if we work together…" Tom 13.

    A few minutes later, Tom went down on his knee and held Ryan's foot in his hands.

    "One…two…three!" shouted Tom. On three, Ryan put all his 14 on Tom's hands, and Tom threw him up into the air. Ryan's hand hit the doorframe and fell down laughing.

    "15 did it!" he said.

    "Now it's my turn!" said Tom.

    Together, they were the best jumpers there ever were.
