If you have a problem with speaking, you can do several things. Listen to English as much as possible. You can learn a poem(诗) or a song by heart. You can also learn more dialogues（对话）. And practice speaking with your friends as much as you can.
Many people find it difficult to listen to English. The answer is to listen as much as you can. However, don't do too much at one time. It is better to practice listening for five minutes every day. Don't sit down and listen for an hour at a time. That's too much! Do choose listening passages that are interesting and not too difficult. Choose（选择） tapes（磁带） on which the people speak clearly and not too fast. Take it easy， at first. Success with simple tapes at the beginning is the answer. Later on you can practice with tapes that are more difficult.
Finally, how can you learn to write well? How do you use little words like in, on, of and for? There are two answers to this. First, do some study with new words. Keep a list of verbs like look for, look after and so on. Second, read as much English as possible. There are many things that can't be learnt. You must see them in books many times. Then you'll be able to use them correctly(正确地) yourself. So, in order to write well, you must first learn to read much.

       In the US, people prefer waiting for a table to sitting with people they don't know. If you are sitting at a table with people you don't know, it is impolite to light up a cigarette without asking if it will disturb them.
        At American restaurants and coffee shops you are usually served tap water (自来水) before you order. You may find bread and butter is free, and if you order coffee, you may get a free refill（续杯）.
Most cities and towns have no rules about opening and closing time for stores or restaurants, though they usually do make rules for bars. Especially in large cities, stores may be open 24 hours a day.
        Serving (一份) in restaurants is often large, too large for many people. If you can't finish your meal but would like to enjoy the food later, ask your waitress or waiter for a “doggie bag”. It may have a picture of a dog on it, but everybody knows you're taking the food for yourself.
        Supper and dinner are both words for the evening meal. Some people have “Sunday dinner”. This is an especially big noon meal.
Tips are not usually added to the check. They are not included in the price of the meal, either. A tip of about 15% is expected and you should leave it on the table when you leave. In some restaurants, a check is brought on a plate and you put your money there. Then the waiter or waitress brings you your change.

On the evening of February 3rd, people in Japan celebrate the end of winter and the beginning of spring. This is known as Setsubun. Family members throw dried beans around their homes, shouting, “Good luck in!”

Mother's Day is a celebration in memory of mothers. It celebrates the importance of mothers in society. It is celebrated on different days in many parts of the world, mostly in March, April or May. Let's see how different people celebrate their Mother's Day.

Mexico (May 10)

Children make gifts and give them to their mums on Mother's Eve (May 9). On the morning of May 10, families make a special trip to church and eat tamales(玉米饼), sometimes filled with meat, cheese or vegetables.

South Africa (Second Sunday of May)

Besides giving mums Mother's Day cards, people show their thanks for their mothers by wearing red and pink flowers called carnations. If their mothers have passed away, they wear white carnations.

Mother's Day is a traditional day for people to visit their hometown and attend their home churches. People also bake(烘焙)special fruitcakes to give to their mums.

People throw big parties for their mums, filled with fun activities-such as cooking competitions and kebaya-wearing competitions! (A kebaya is a traditional blouse and skirt.)

What is a typical day like for a high school student in the United States? Well, everyone's is very different. I can describe my normal day in high school for you,

Our school day usually went from 8:30 am to 5: 30 pm. However

some days I had cheerleading(啦啦队) practice or play practice at 6:30 am. If I had cheerleading practice, I got ready at school, and if I had time, I ate breakfast at the school dining hall.

Then I would go towards my locker and get my books for the first period. Each class went for about 50 minutes and we had 4 minutes to get to the next class. We studied everything from science to maths and Spanish to PE.

I played the flute(长笛) in band, so one of my class periods was used for that. Lunchtime would be at 12:30 pm and then we had some time to hang out outside or by our lockers. At the end of the day there was a seminar(研讨会) period. It could be used for studying or meetings.

After school, I would cheer at a basketball game, be a lifeguard(救生员) at work or has speech practice. My family always tried to have dinner together at 7 pm, but there wasn't always time. I would finally start studying at 8 or 9 pm.

So there you have it! That's my typical day in high school.
