Margaret always {#blank#}1{#/blank#} her friends cards on Christmas Day. She thinks it is a great way to tell each other how much she values their {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Last week, Margaret went to several different {#blank#}3{#/blank#} looking for special cards for her friends. Margaret likes all the friends equally. She wanted to find a card for each friend that was personal, and she wanted the cards to also look sort of {#blank#}4{#/blank#} same. Margaret spent over an hour looking at cards, but she could not find the cards {#blank#}5{#/blank#} were right.

    Margaret had a great idea. She would make cards for each of her friends. But she wasn't sure how to make cards. She remembered {#blank#}6{#/blank#} somewhere about Christmas Cards that were {#blank#}7{#/blank#} by hand over a hundred years ago. She used the Internet to find out {#blank#}8{#/blank#} about these cards. She made notes for all the materials she would need and went back to the store to get them.

    Margaret spent several hours working on the Christmas cards {#blank#}9{#/blank#}. That night at dinner, Margaret showed her family the cards she had made for her friends. Even her brother thought they were great, and he almost never thinks Margaret's ideas are great. Margaret {#blank#}10{#/blank#}to make each of her parents a Christmas card and one for her brother, too.

    Each spring brings many wildflowers along the highway that I travel to work. There is one special blue {#blank#}1{#/blank#}that has always caught my eyes. Every day for two weeks.

    I see the beautiful flowers.

    This spring, I started a wildflower garden in our yard. I can {#blank#}2{#/blank#}out of the kitchen window while doing the {#blank#}3{#/blank#}and see the flowers. I've often thought that those lovely blue flowers along the highway would look great in my wildflower {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

    Every day I drove past the flowers thinking, "I'll stop on my way home and dig {#blank#}5{#/blank#}But I didn't want to get my clean clothes dirty... "I never {#blank#}6{#/blank#} to dig them One day on my way home from work, I was {#blank#}7{#/blank#}to see the highway workers had cut off the pretty blue flowers. I thought to myself, "You waited too {#blank#}8{#/blank#}You should have done it when you first saw them blooming this spring.

    A week ago we were sad to learn that my oldest sister {#blank#}9{#/blank#}a cancer, She is 20 years older than me, and because of being far away, we {#blank#}10{#/blank#}ever visited her, I thought about the pretty blue flowers and then about my sister, I won't miss the time I can spend staying with her.

A: What do you {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Halloween?

B: It's on October 31.

A: Yes. But do you know what people do on that day?

B: Of course. They {#blank#}2{#/blank#} and dress up.

A: I hear that children love Halloween best.

B: Yes. Because they can play a game called "trick or treat" then.

A: How do they do that?

B: They paint their faces, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} their neighbours' doors and shout "trick or treat". If people don't give them any candy, they usually {#blank#}4{#/blank#} them.

A: That's really interesting. Do people have a party on Halloween?

B: Yes, usually in the evening. People {#blank#}5{#/blank#} and enjoy nice food.   

    George Wilson was the owner of a watch shop. One day he told his son James," I'll teach you all I know about watches."

    For the first few weeks, James looked after the front of the shop. He worked hard and was {#blank#}1{#/blank#} to the customers(顾客). George was very pleased with(对...... 很满意) him.

    After about six months, James said to his father," "Is there anything else you want to teach me?"

    "Yes," said George," it's time for me to teach you how to make{#blank#}2{#/blank#} "

    "I know that," said James," you buy watches at one price and sell them at a {#blank#}3{#/blank#} price. That's how we get so much money."

    "That's true. But we don't make most of the money from it." He picked up a watch from the counter(柜台)."What do you think of this watch?"

    "That's a cheap watch. We can only get few dollars from {#blank#}4{#/blank#}  it."

    "You are wrong, my son," George said," those cheap ones get {#blank#}5{#/blank#} money to us than any other watch in the shop."

    "I don't understand," James said.

    "Because they are really cheap, they are always breaking, and we make our money from fixing them."
