Earth is our home. It has air that we can breathe(呼吸). It has water for us to drink. It has plants and animals that we can eat. Earth is not too hot or too cold for us. It has everything we need to live.

    We are on earth, but we call see things that are not on earth. Early in the morning, we can see the sun comes up. All day, the sun seems to move across the sky. Later in the day, we can see the sun goes down. But the sun is not really moving around us. We are the ones who are moving. Every morning, we turn towards the sun. Every night, we turn away from it. Every year, we go around it. Earth is our spaceship. All of us in the spaceship are riding around the sun.

    At night, we can often see the moon and stars. From earth stars look like little points of light because they are so far away. But stars are really big. A star is a great mass of burning gas. It gives off light and heat. Our sun is a star.

    There are eight planets moving around our sun. Earth is the third planet around the sun. Some of the planets have moons. A moon goes around a planet just as a planet goes around a star. Earth has only one moon. Some planets have more.

    Welcome, new students, to Maple Knoll High School Library! Here is an introduction of our school library. The {#blank#}1{#/blank#}on the left of the map helps you best understand it.

    The computer lab is just on the {#blank#}2{#/blank#}of the main entrance. You can enter computers by putting into the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} of your student ID card. There are 4{#blank#}4{#/blank#} copy machines in the library. The circulation desk on the left of the main entrance is a place to borrow and return books from general stacks. The reading area is in the middle of the library. A water fountain is between the {#blank#}5{#/blank#} and the cellphone area. They're all on the right.

    If you want to ask for more help, you can go to the librarian's office.

    Hi! I am Mike. I have a sister and two brothers. We live in a happy family. Nancy is my sister. She is the oldest. She is a kind girl. She is beautiful. She likes learning. She studies very hard. She gets up early and finishes her breakfast quickly. Then she goes to school by bike. David is my brother. He is older than me. But he is a little lazy. He gets up late and then washes his face, brushes his teeth in a hurry. Then he goes to the bus stop without breakfast. He usually plays basketball after school. In the evening, he seldom does homework. He goes to bed late. Jack is our little brother. He is a lovely boy. He gets up very slowly and then he usually takes a shower before breakfast. He goes to school in his father's car. He likes watching TV in the evening.

    There was an old pear tree in a man's garden. In the past, the tree fruited every year, so the man would get many pears. But now, the tree got old. There were no more pears for the man. So the man decided to cut the tree down.

    When he walked toward the tree with an axe in his hand, the tree said to him, "Please don't cut me down. I have born so many pears for you in the past years."

    "I'm sorry, but I have to do so," the man said, "because I need wood to make a chair." Then he began to wave (挥动) his axe. At that moment, a bird in the old tree shouted at him, "Don't cut it down! Every time you go out and your wife feels lonely, she will come out to the garden and sit under the tree to enjoy its cool shade (树萌), and I sing songs to make her happy. We give much pleasure to your wife."

    The man didn't listen to the bird and drove it away. Just as he was about to cut the tree, some bees flew out of it and said, "Listen! If you agree not to kill this tree, we will give you delicious honey every day. Would you please leave the tree with us?"

    The man got moved. He said, "You are so kind to the tree, although it has become old. Now I see that I shouldn't cut it down. It has done so much for me and my wife. Let the tree stay here, and let the bird continue to sing songs here." With these words, the man left.

    Every day on Amelia's way to work she had to pass a slum(贫民窟) .Though she was a social worker, she had never paid much attention to it.

    This changed when she met a boy named Jack. Jack knew that she was the head of social services, and was sure she could help. He reached out his hand to touch her, and said, "Can you help me? I'm looking hard for my dad."

    His hands were so cold that Amelia could not help holding them. She said, "What's up? ""My mum is sick and too weak to get up. Her birthday is coming. I know my father's coming back would be the best present. We really love him, and need him." "So what's his name? What does he do?" Amelia asked. He said, "I've no idea. My mum said he had left us before I was two years old." Amelia was deeply moved and said, "Take me to your home, son."

    He led her to a small house. Looking around, there was nothing in it except for a small bed. A woman was sitting on it and as soon as Amelia saw her, she knew her life was near its end. She said to Amelia, "Please find a home for my son. Please don't leave him alone in the world. "With tears running from her eyes, Amelia took her hand and said," I will take care of him and love him as my own son." In fact, since her husband and she had no children, they had been wanting a child for a long time.

    Ever since Amelia took Jack into her home, life is full of joy and laughter. She got the best present in return for her kindness.
