I'm Maggie．When l was a teenager(青少年)，I wanted to leave school and have my own life．The only1I could think of doing this was to work in the brick(砖)factory in my town．I was very2when I told my father my idea．I thought he would say,"No!You are going to college．"But he3said．"OK．Let's go to the brick factory．"

    Two days later,he took4to the factory．I had a romantic(浪漫主义的)idea of working in a factory．I imagined everyone to be friends working together and having fun．I5imagined that there would be music and singing．I guess I had watched too many movies as a teenager．

When we6the factory gate,my father spoke to the guard(警卫)and one minute later we were inside．My father said．"Take your time．Have a close look before you decide to work here．"I walked7the factory,looking at the buildings and workers and listening to the noise．Later,I ran back to my father and said，"I want to go home．"

    He asked why,looking into my eyes.

     "It's8here."I answered.

    I went back to school the next day.From then on ,I began to9very hard.I got into a good college.After I left college,I 10a good job at a big company.Thanks to my father and our trip to the brick factory,I'm now living a really happy life!

    A friend of mine named Paul received an expensive car from his brother as a Christmas present. On Christmas Eve when Paul came out of his office, a boy was walking around the shinning car. “Is this your car ,Paul ?” he asked. Paul answered ,“Yes, my brother gave it to me for Christmas.” The boy was surprised . “You mean your brother gave it to you and it didn't cost you anything? Well , I wish…” He hesitated.

    Of course, Paul knew what he was going to wish for. He was going to wish he had a brother like that . But what the boy said surprised Paul greatly.

    “I wish,” the boy went on ,“that I could be a brother like that.” Paul looked at the boy in surprise, then he said again,“ Would you like to take a ride in my car ?”

    “Oh yes, I'd love that.”

    After a short ride, the boy with his eyes shining, “Paul, would you mind driving in front of my house?”

    Paul smiled a little. He thought he knew what the boy wanted. He wanted to show his neighbours that he could ride home in a big car. But Paul was wrong again. “Will you stop where those two steps are ?” the boy asked.

    He ran up to the steps. Then in a short while Paul heard him coming back, but he was not coming fast. He was carrying his little crippled* brother. He sat him down on the step and pointed to the car.

    “There it is , Buddy, just like I told you upstairs. His brother gave it to him for Christmas and it didn't cost him a cent. And some day I'm going to give you one just like it…Then you can see for yourself all the nice things in the Christmas windows that I've been trying to tell you about.”

    Paul got out and lifted the boy to the front seat of his car. The shining—eyed older brother climbed in beside him and the three of them began an unforgettable holiday ride.

    Different things usually stand for different feelings. Red, for example, is the colour of fire, heat, blood and life. It is used for signs of 1 , such as STOP signs and fire engines. Orange is the colour of brightness, warmth and 2in autumn. People say orange is a 3colour. They associate orange with happiness. 4 is the colour of grass in spring. People say it is a refreshing colour. In general, people 5 about two groups of colours: warm colours and cool colours. The warm colours are red, orange and yellow .When there are warm colours, people usually want to be 6. The cool colours are black and blue. When there are these colours, people are usually worried.     As we all know that terrible day on September 11, 2001. I look back on1I was doing during those moments. And I2, very clearly（清楚地）, that I was in my3driving to work.

    When the first plane hit（撞击）the World Trade Center, I was4the radio, and the news came on.  The5thing that came to my mind was it was just a（n）6.

    What a morning! We knew things were going to be very15from then on; I had a bad feeling about the future.

    My dad had a keen imagination, and would play a little good-night game every day. He would 1 my room to talk to me and listen to the joys and sorrows of my day. As he was leaving, Dad would blow out my light like the birthday candles one, 2.

    As he did his little routine, Dad would say, "The light will be dark. As far as you're concerned, it will be dark all over the world because your world is the one you control totally by yourself. The world is yours to see that way. So, keep your light 3.

    When I was very young, I used to -4 there in bed after Dad left and try to understand what he meant, It was 5 as I was so young. What Dad was trying to tell me was that when I went to 6 at night, the world came to a stop, When I woke up in the morning I could 7 to see a fresh new world through my own eyes. My father's guidance about self-aware and about the power of the eye of others was invaluable: "Everything depends on how you9 what happens in life. And what matters greatly is how you take it."

That good-night game with my father taught me that people's 10 of me aren't important. It's the way I handle them that makes the difference.
