    Take 5 minutes to write down all the new words you find in your listening and reading exercises. Keep a notebook, and write in the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (translate) in your native language. Don't forget to learn grammar for 10 minutes. Try to quickly summarize what you listened to and what you read and speak out loud.

    The giant vending machine (自动售货机) is a new village shop

Villagers have long been used to facing a drive when they run out of basic supplies. However, help is now nearer at hand in form of the country's first automatic push-button shop. Now residents in the Derbyshire Village of Clifton can buy groceries around the clock after the huge vending was installed outside a pub in the village this week.

    Peter Fox, who is{#blank#}1{#/blank#}electrical engineer, spent two and a half years working on the project. The machine {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (equip) with securing cameras and alarms and looks like a mini shop with a brick front, a grey roof and a display window.

    Mr. Fox said he hoped his invention,{#blank#}3{#/blank#} is set to be installed in other villages in the area over the coming months, will mark a return to convenience shopping for rural communities.

He said:“ I had this idea a few years ago but I couldn't find a manufacture who could deliver what I wanted, so I did it by{#blank#}4{#/blank#} The result is what amounts to huge outdoor vending machine. Yet I think the term “automatic shop” is far {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (appropriate)

    In recent years, the commercial pressure from supermarket chains{#blank#}6{#/blank#} force village shops across the country to close. In 2010, it was estimated that about 400 village shops closed,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (urge) the local government to give financial support to struggling shops or set-up new communities stores.

    Hundreds of communities have since stepped in and opened up their won volunteer-run shops, but Mr. Fox hopes his new invention will offer a solution{#blank#}8{#/blank#}these villages without a local shop.

    Longjing tea, also known as West Lake Dragon Well tea, is named  {#blank#}1{#/blank#} its production region—Longjing Village of West Lake in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.

    West Lake Dragon Well tea has topped list of  {#blank#}2{#/blank#} ten most famous teas in China. The superior geographical environment and good quality water resources around West Lake have contributed much to the growth of Longjing tea.

    Legend has it that Emperor Qianlong  {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (visit) Lion Peak Moutain during his Hangzhou travels, and he saw several  {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (lady) picking the tea at the foot of the mountain. He was so interested in it that he decided to have a try himself.

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#} picking the tea, he received the news of his mother s illness, so he  {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (careless) put the leaves in his right sleeve and left Hangzhou for Beijing. He visited his mother immediately upon his  {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (arrive) in Beijing, and Empress Dowager smelt the fragrance of the leaves in his sleeve and wanted to have a taste. Emperor Qianlong ordered some tea for Empress Dowager, and she found  {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (she) completely refreshed after  {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (drink) a cup of tea, and she even praised it as a treatment for all ills. From then on, Shi Feng Longjing tea  {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (list) as the tribute tea (贡茶）especially for Empress Dowager.

    Around the end of the first century AD，a Roman writer {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (call) Pliny wrote about a terrible volcanic eruption that he {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (witness)as a young man.
