bad  British  consider  fun  hope  pleasure  power  they  total  understand  we  win

Is it true that we British people have a different sense of humor from people in other countries? Let's have a look at what we laugh at in {#blank#}1{#/blank#}.

To us British people, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} and important people often cause laughter. It's not just politicians (政客) who make us laugh, but anyone whose job is to tell other people what to do and who takes {#blank#}3{#/blank#} too seriously.

We laugh at the power, but also, pitifully, at anyone who is treated {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. We know they cannot win, but if they do win sometimes, it's even {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. Our clowns (小丑) are often silly people doing silly things, while in America, they are often clever people doing clever things-and {#blank#}6{#/blank#} at last.

The fact that we laugh when other people might feel {#blank#}7{#/blank#} is one of the strangest things to learn about British humor. We do have a strong sense of irony (反讽). After some terrible experience, we might say, "Not very {#blank#}8{#/blank#}." And we might say in the middle of a typhoon, "It's a bit windy today." Or "There is a tiny problem," when something has gone {#blank#}9{#/blank#} wrong. We don't like to express strong feelings, but just "keep calm and carry on".

Another things that can make it difficult {#blank#}10{#/blank#} British humor is that we don't always laugh or even smile when we say something funny. We often keep a straight face or use an unsmiling expression when we're making a joke.

Do you think the British sense of humor is special?

根据短文内容,用方框中所给词的正确形式填空,使短文完整、正确。(每个词只次,有两个多余词)

but    heart    basketball    longer    both    never    give    neither    from    forget    value    good

Dear basketball,

When I rolled(使成球形)my dad's socks as a {#blank#}1{#/blank#}, I knew one thing was real: I fell in love with you. The love was so deep that I gave you my all {#blank#}2{#/blank#} my body to my soul(灵魂).

As a six-year-old boy, I loved you deeply. I {#blank#}3{#/blank#} stopped loving you. I only saw myself running for you every court(场)all the time. You needed my effort, I tried my {#blank#}4{#/blank#}, because it asked for so much more. I played through me sweat(汗水)and the hurt, not because the challenge called me, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} because you called me. I did everything for you, became you made me feel alive.

You gave a six-year-old boy his Laker(湖人)dream, and I will always love you for it. But now I can't love you any {#blank#}6{#/blank#}. This season is the last one for me. My {#blank#}7{#/blank#} can still best, my spirit can also fight, but my body' knows it's time to say, goodbye. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} of us accept it. And it's OK. I'm ready, to let you go.

I want you to know now, then we can {#blank#}9{#/blank#} each other every moment we have left together.

The good and the bad, we have {#blank#}10{#/blank#} one another all that we have. And we also know, whatever I do next, I will always be that kid with a basketball in my hands.

    Love you always.
