There are many TV programs on Chinese cuisines(烹饪)now.  A Bite of China(舌尖上的中国)is a new program and it's very popular．The CCTV Channel One show began to play on May 14th，2012．It was held by the award-winning documentary maker Chen Xiaoqing．The program tries to bring something new by presenting more cultural elements related to dishes，such as eating habits and the ethics(道德)of eating．It also offers insights into the geographical，historical and cultural dimensions of what Chinese eat．It can teach us how to make the food．So the program is sure to attract both food buffs and ordinary audiences．

    A Bite of China has seven episodes(片段)．Each episode lasts 50 minutes．Themes range from ingredients to preserved food．

    Food is always connected with people．To get enough good stories，the  production team spent three months doing research and interviews in about 60 cities before they started shooting．Filming lasted about nine months．

    A Bite of China captures social changes while presenting food cultures，such as，many families leave old people in their hometowns while other members work outside，the food of their hometown can remind them of happy times．

     Chen says the seven episodes might not be enough to capture the glory of Chinese food culture．

    Paper was first created about 2,000 years ago in China. After the invention, people started to write on paper to make books. In those days, books were only produced one at a time by hand. As a result, there were not many books, and they were expensive. So, few people had the chance to learn to read.

    Printing was invented in China during the Sui and Tang Dynasties(隋唐时期). Later, developments in printing made it possible to produce books more quickly and cheaply. A trade in books developed, and more people learnt to read. Knowledge and ideas spread (传播) faster than ever before. In a way, we can compare the invention of paper and printing to the introduction of the Internet in the twentieth century.

    AAAGH! The Generation 90s is coming! Wearing earphones, using complex Net language and constantly text messaging friends, the Gen-90s following the Gen-80s begin to make their world debut (初次登台).

    Each generation or age group has its own symbols and lifestyle. Read on and judge for yourselves if you fit the Gen-90s group.

Earphones—These little devices seem to grow on the heads of the Gen-90s. They might lead to MP3, MP4 or MP101 players, giving these young people a plugged-in, cool and perhaps self-addicted look, of course, life is not always music to the ears.

Self-Portrait— Saying "cheese" to their own digital cameras is usual for this generation. A little bit of narcissism (自恋) never hurts anyone. It helps them reflect a little on their own lives．But be aware of the risks of posting private photos online.

Text-messaging —They can type their mobile phones as fast as they can speak. This is a generation that respects efficiency. However, oral communication is important and will never go out of style.

    Have you ever wanted to have a doll that could talk to you? In the book The Ventriloquist's Daughter, a girl named Liur gets a doll like this. But it doesn't turn out to be as fun as she thought

    Lin Man-Chiu, an author from Taiwan, wrote the book. British translator Helen Wang translated it into English. The book tells a touching story about Liur and her father.

    Liur loses her mother at a young age. Her grandfather sends her father to a medical school in the US. Five years later, he comes back with a doll named Carola, as he once promised he would. This doll is quite unusual—it can talk! However, Carola makes a lot of problems for the family.

    After reading this book, I thought Liur and her father were just unlucky. In fact, this story is based on the author's own unhappy childhood. She had six sisters. Still, her grandfather wanted a grandson. Her father was under heavy pressure and didn't live with her and her sisters for a very long time. The author didn't like her father when she was young. But now she has forgiven him. The talking doll Carola stands for her father's burden （负担）.

    After I learned this, I understood the author's main message. Everyone has demons （心魔）in their lives, but we should do our best to beat them.

    To save time, many Americans buy foods which can be quickly made ready for the table. On holidays, families enjoy delicious meals. For example, on Thanksgiving Day, the fourth Thursday in November, family members get together for a turkey dinner with pumpkin pie(南瓜派).

    The United States is known around the world for its fast food, such as hamburgers, sandwiches, pizzas, salad bars, and many kinds of ice cream. People can easily find fast food chains(连锁店),such as McDonalds' and KFC, in most of the big cities in the world.

    These years, many people have taken more and more care of their health while eating. They come to know eating too much meat will make them overweight. Many of them are also worried about food addictives(添加剂). Some of them may be harmful to the body.
