Gift from a stranger

My local supermarket is always busy. The first parking space I found was convenient, but I'd noticed a woman in a blue car circling for a while. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} I was in a good mood, I let her have it. On the edge of the car park I backed into the next available spot—it was a tight fit.

Pretty soon I'd made my way through the supermarket and was back in the fresh air. Feeling good, I {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (empty) my purse change into the hands of a homeless man and helped a struggling woman reverse park（倒车）.

Just as I approached my car, 1 saw the woman I'd let have my car space earlier. She was giving me {#blank#}3{#/blank#} odd look—half puzzled, half intent (热切的). I smiled and wished her a pleasant day. As I squeezed back into my car, I spotted the same lady {#blank#}4{#/blank#}  (look) in at me. "Hello," she said, hesitantly. "This {#blank#}5{#/blank#}  sound crazy but I was on my way to drop some of my mother's things off at the charity bins.” You are just so much{#blank#}6{#/blank#} her.” You helped those people, I noticed, and you seemed so happy.” She looked at me meaningfully and passed a box in through the window. “I think she would like you to have it.”{#blank#}7{#/blank#}  (shock), I took it from her automatically. She smiled and walked away.

After a pause, I opened the box. Inside was a beautiful gold necklace with a large grey pearl. It was{#blank#}8{#/blank#}  (nice) gift I'd ever received, and it was from a complete stranger. The necklace was around my neck, a warm reminder of human kindness.

    At first, only people {#blank#}1{#/blank#}England spoke English. Later, people from England {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (voyage)to other parts of the world and {#blank#}3{#/blank#}that, English began to {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (speak) in many other countrieas. Today, {#blank#}5{#/blank#}people speak English as their{#blank#}6{#/blank#}, second or foreign language than ever before. Native English speakers can understand each other {#blank#}7{#/blank#}they don't speak {#blank#}8{#/blank#}same kind of English. All languages change when {#blank#}9{#/blank#} communicate with one another. So there are British English, American English, Australian English and so on. They all have their own identity. Maybe one day Chinese English{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (become) one of the world Englishes.

    When kids in parts of the world want to play, they often make soccer balls out of trash tied together with string. “{#blank#}1{#/blank#} the areas used for playing fields are often rough and rocky, millions of real balls go flat (变瘪){#blank#}2{#/blank#} 24 hours,” says Tim Jahnigen, a California businessman. Determined to solve this problem,{#blank#}3{#/blank#} created an indestructible ball called the One World Futbol.

    The ball is made of {#blank#}4{#/blank#} special material, ethylene-vinyl acetate foam. It's lightweight, it's flexible, and—{#blank#}5{#/blank#} important—it holds its shape.

    The One World Futbol needs no pump {#blank#}6{#/blank#} won't wear out, even on rough surfaces. When tested,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} withstood (经受住) being crushed by a car, and even being chewed on by a lion.

    Although it costs more to produce {#blank#}8{#/blank#} a typical soccer ball, Jahnigen estimates the One World Futbol can last 30 years. So far, it's been given to kids in 143 countries. 

    Lanzhou beef noodle is one of China's most representative flour-made foods while pasta (意大利面食) is one famous Western fancy food. An event, “When Lanzhou beef noodle meets pasta, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (connect) city food cultures, was held at the Beijing Ritz-Carlton Hotel on October 11, 2017 to show the interaction.

    Lanzhou beef noodle has a history of 102 years and is known for its {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (taste) beef, soup and noodle. Lanzhou is also qualified as {#blank#}3{#/blank#}hometown of Chinese beef noodle. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}one major city along the ancient Silk Road, Lanzhou has witnessed the efforts of our ancestors and their achievement of developing the Silk Road, according to Zhang Hui, deputy director with the Publicity department of the CPC Committee of Lanzhou.

    Lanzhou's cooking culture {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (develop)its own time-honored characteristics over the years. The event will make Lanzhou beef noodle smelled not only across Lanzhou, {#blank#}6{#/blank#}across the world through the Belt and Road Initiative thanks to the {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (participate)of the two countries' noodle master. It will also improve cultural exchange, Zhang added. Lanzhou people would like to work with friends at home and abroad {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (promote) the development of cooking and we {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (sincere)hope more cultural exchanges of this kind {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (hold) in Italy and Lanzhou in the future.

    Winter break was fast approaching. All Scott wanted to do was to go snowboarding. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (fortunately), Scott's parents had different plans. They had booked a weeklong trip to Hawaii. Scott hated warm weather and asked {#blank#}2{#/blank#} he could just stay at his best friend's house so that he could snowboard every day. His parents didn't want to hear anything of it. He kept {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (debate) with them about the topic, but they would not change their minds. Family time was important to them, and it was a tradition that they spent winter break together.
