Last Christmas, the circus owner, Jimmy Gates, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (decide) to take some presents to a children's hospital. He should have known that the police would never allow this sort of thing. A policeman approached Jimmy {#blank#}4{#/blank#} told him he ought to have gone along a side street as Jumbo was holding {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the traffic.{#blank#}6{#/blank#} Jimmy agreed to go at once, Jumbo refused to move. Fifteen policemen had to push very hard {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (get) him off the main street. The police had {#blank#}8{#/blank#} difficult time, but they were most amused. 'Jumbo must weigh a few tons,' said a policeman afterwards, 'so {#blank#}9{#/blank#} was fortunate that we didn't have to carry him. Of course, we should arrest him,{#blank#}10{#/blank#} as he has a good record, we shall let him off this time.'

    Every individual is a member of a group called the community, and it is the duty of every citizen {#blank#}1{#/blank#} ask what he can do for his community. A good citizen {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(相信) that he should serve the community and not the community serve h{#blank#}3{#/blank#}. As students, there are many ways in {#blank#}4{#/blank#} you can serve the community. Above all, however, you have to acquire a certain amount of skill and experience b{#blank#}5{#/blank#} you can be of service to others. Your school has lots of{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(活动) which prepare you {#blank#}7{#/blank#} good citizenship. Many school societies train students to become good citizens who later p{#blank#}8{#/blank#} in volunteer work and serve the public in t{#blank#}9{#/blank#} of need. If you serve your community, you will grow {#blank#}10{#/blank#} to be a good citizen with a strong sense of responsibility.

    Ever since middle school,my sister and I have dreamed about{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(take) a great bike trip.After graduating{#blank#}2{#/blank#}college,we finally got the chance to cycle along the entire Mekong River,{#blank#}3{#/blank#}runs past many{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(country) and into the Pacific.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}my sister didn't know the best way of getting places,she insisted that the trip{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(organize) by her.     I lost my last debate in the recent National High School Academic Debate & Speech Tournament held in Shanghai. But instead of focusing on my {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(fail), I stopped to reflect on my experiences in the past few years {#blank#}2{#/blank#}a debater.

    In general, preparing for new debate topics usually {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (include) brainstorming arguments, researching a resolution（解决）, and doing debate practice. So if you spot a debating group, you might see us sitting together after school, or even all day at weekends, discussing arguments and researching evidence. You might also notice us arguing {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(fierce) anywhere we can.

    Not only are they supportive, but my debate friends also have similar passions and interests to mine. As we discuss debate topics, my fellow debaters and I can talk about anything, from {#blank#}5{#/blank#}best way of rehabilitating（改造）criminals to the negative points of free immigration policies. However, our discussions are more than just a way {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (practice) our debating skills. In my mind, they're helping us to become calm and consider {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(win) and solving real problems as well.

    To me, the debating community is a great place{#blank#}8{#/blank#}people help each other not only because they're interested in a higher cause, but because they care about how people from different {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(background) can lead better lives. I'm grateful to each of my debate friends and every single minute we get to spend together. Indeed, my high school life would be incomplete without them. So even though I {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(defeat) in my last debate, I'm still thankful for being part of my wonderful debate family.
