Last month, Jack went to swim in the sea. He swam really far, past the rocks and out to sea. He enjoyed  {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(he)swimming in the blue sea.

    Then he saw something {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(move) towards him. It was huge and gray, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}a large fin. It was a shark! {#blank#}4{#/blank#}shark started to swim around him. Jack began to swim back, {#blank#}5{#/blank#}the beach was too far away.

    Jack was really scared. Suddenly another creature appeared next to him in the water. It was a dolphin! It pushed him away from the shark. Jack sat{#blank#}6{#/blank#} its back as it swam towards the beach.

    Soon they were near the beach. The shark did not follow them. As soon as Jack {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (step) onto the beach, the dolphin swam away. He will always remember how this {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (friend) animal saved his life.

    This is not just a story. In fact, dolphins do save people's {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(life)like that. There are also many dangerous things in the sea, so take {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(careful)when you go swimming.

    When Mark first arrived in Thailand, he saw an old man selling something cheap in the street of Chiang Mai. The old man was one of the poor people in Chiang Mai and there was no {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(different) from beggars (乞丐). Most of them were some lonely old people. Their life was very hard.

    Mark was a kind man, so he gave some change to him {#blank#}2{#/blank#} thinking. The old man told him to pick something he likes. Mark didn't choose {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(something) and left.

    But the old man followed him {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(close). At first, Mark didn't think a lot, just supposing he wanted to go home. But when he went out very far and saw the old man still following him, he was a bit tired, {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(think) the old man must feel he was kind and wanted to beg more money from him.

    Mark turned back and told him not to follow him {#blank#}6{#/blank#}he hadn't much money. But the old man seemed not to understand what he {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(mean), still following him. The bag on his back made him sweat(流汗) all over.

    Mark happened {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(meet) his Thai colleague (同事) in the street and his colleague heard this. The colleague turned to ask why the old man was following his friend.

    The old man said out of breath, "My son, you gave me money, but didn't want my things. I see you are a foreigner. I just want to follow you and show you the way. {#blank#}9{#/blank#}I can do for you is this."

    Mark was shocked. He said he didn't know why, when he felt the old man was just {#blank#}10{#/blank#}his father.

    Hemingway is one of the most famous writers and reporters in the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (twenty) century(世纪)in the world. He was born on July 21, 1899 and {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (die) on July 2, 1961.

    When he was a small child, his mother taught him and her other children music and creativity(创造力)by {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(take)them to concerts, museums and theatres. And his father taught them to love nature and how {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (cook)in the open air and other life skills.

    In 1917, Hemingway finished high school and then worked as {#blank#}5{#/blank#}reporter. During World War I(第一次世界大战), he went to France, Italy and Spain. He fought in World War I and then moved {#blank#}6{#/blank#} Cuba Later, Cuba drove him out of the country. He had to go back to Idaho, the USA. There he had many health problems. And in 1961 he killed {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (him) with a gun(#t)in his own house.

    In his amazing life, Hemingway wrote lots {#blank#}8{#/blank#} famous works. Most of them are still popular now. The Old Man and the Sea helped him {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (win) the Pulitzer Prizes(普利策奖) in 1953 and the Nobel Prize In Literature in 1954. His other famous {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(work) include The Sun Also Rises(《太阳照常升起》), A Farewell to Arms(《永别了，武器》) and so on.
