A poor boy lived in a small town.He sold goods from door to door to pay for school. One day, he only one cent left, and he was hungry. He decided that he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, when a young woman opened the door, the boy was shy, so he just asked for some water. The woman knew he was hungry, so she brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, “How much should I pay for it?” “You won't pay for it. My mother has told me that it is good to help the people who are in trouble.” She replied. The boy said, “Then I thank you from my heart.” As the boy left that house, he felt stronger. He knew he had many things to do.

    Many years later, the young woman became ill. The local doctors couldn't save her. People had to send her to a big city.When the doctor knew who the woman was, he was excited and tried his best to save her life. He succeeded. The woman needed to pay for the medical bill. The doctor learned that she couldn't afford it. So he wrote something down on the medical bill. The woman read the bill, “You have paid it with a glass of milk.”

    Night after night，she came to help me sleep，even long after my childhood years．

    I don't remember when it first started making me a little angry-my mom's hands pushing my hair that way．But it really made me uncomfortable，for they felt rough against my young skin．Finally, one night，I shouted at her．"Don't do that anymore．Your hands are too rough!" She didn't say anything, but she never did it again．

    Years later, I missed my mother's hands and her goodnight kiss on my face. I was not a little girl anymore. My mom was in her mid—seventies, and her rough hands were still doing things for my family and me．   

    Now my own children have grown up．It was late on Thanksgiving Eve．As I slept in my bedroom，a familiar hand ran across my face to push the hair from my head. Then a kiss，ever so softly, touched my forehead．

    Taking my mom's hand，I told her how sorry I was for that night I shouted at her．But my mom didn't know what I was talking about．She had forgotten it for long．

    That night，I fell asleep with a new appreciation for my mother's caring hands. And the guilt that I had carried around for so long was nowhere to be found．

    One night a patient went fishing in another man's boat outside Albert Smith's hospital. The owner of the boat thought he should get all the fish from the patient.

    Dr Smith said to the boat owner, "You are right because you didn't allow him to use your boat. But you are wrong because you are careless and lazy. You seldom(很少) put your boat in a safe place and fasten it with a lock. Because of your laziness you were asleep on this moonlit night instead of making use of the good time to fish. "

    He turned to the patient, "But you are wrong when you took the boat without asking the owner's permission(允许). You are right because you are not so lazy as he is, and you did not want to let the moonlit night go by without making use of it. "

    Dr Smith divided the catch(捕捉物) among the patient, the boat owner and the hospital .

    This morning I woke up being a little bit worried. Too many unlucky things happened and I needed to make many decisions. I decided to go for a walk and tried to relax. On the way, I kept repeating to myself," Don't stop being kind. Others may have worse situations than me." I already felt better when walking in the park enjoying the beautiful trees and the smiles to and from strangers. I decided to go shopping on my way back.

    After paying. I sat-down for a while and got a coffee. An elderly man sat next to me and started talking very loudly. I noticed that he had hearing aids(助听器)in both cars. He had a coffee too. I tried talking with him, but I realized he could not under-stand anything. I stayed anyway and he told me about his difficulties with hearing, his son who worked in the supermarket and that he was at the age of 89! He felt happy to still be able to do the shopping on his own.

    He said he liked talking to people and he apologized many times. I told him it was lovely to talk to him and after a while I said goodbye, shook his hands and wished him a good day. He was so happy and grateful(感激的).He thanked me many times and the last thing he said was" Thank you for listening". I thought the whole point was" I just stayed and listened".

Three hours, thirty-five minutes and thirty seconds. It took Belachew Girma the1 to set a world record(纪录). This man from Ethiopia didn't set a world record for running or jumping. He set the world record for laughing2 . Belachew Girma laughed for 3 3 hours without stopping!

However, Belachew Girma didn't always like to laugh. 4 , he wasn't very happy in the past. After his wife died, Belachew Girma thought he would5 laugh again. Then, someone taught him how to laugh. Belachew Girma started to know: laughing made him feel good. So he wanted to laugh all the time. 

Belachew Girma practiced laughing night and day. The only time he didn't practice laughing was when he was6 . Someone told Belachew Girma about a laughter7 and he decided to take part in it. He went on practicing his laughing8 . After laughing for over 3 hours

Belachew Girma 9 the competition. He10 a world record holder(持有人)! He didn't have time to be sad or to worry11 he was always laughing. 

Belachew Girma wanted to help12 by laughing. He travelled around the world to13 his experience(经验) with people. To Belachew himself, laughing saved his14 . Today, he finds poor kids and teaches them to laugh. When kids laugh, it15 their sadness. The laughing makes them much happier and healthier. It helps make their lives better. 

Belachew Girma knows: The more he laughs, the more others laugh too. By laughing, he expects to make the world a happier place.
