A volunteer experience

It was March 2018. I was finishing high school. While I was looking forward to my college years, I also felt a strong desire to volunteer abroad. After weeks of serious consideration, I decided to have a gap year(间隔年).

I cannot tell you how many hours I spent trying to find the programme I was most interested in. I contacted many volunteer organizations. In the end, I signed up with " African Impact". I wanted to make an impact（影响）-no matter how small-on Africa and its people.

I took part in the Child Care Project. We worked in an orphanage (孤儿院) in Cape Town( 开普敦） and spent time with a group of orphans（孤儿） between the ages of 0 and 3. There was nothing as exciting as seeing a baby taking her first steps, hearing a two-year-old girl repeat all of the letters in the alphabet after I said them, seeing a little boy kick or catch balls of different sizes, and watching all of the kids carefully wash their hands as it became a habit. These were the skills that I watched the children develop during my time there. My heart was filled with pride.

I also took part in the Teaching Project and worked in a preschool. Teaching was more tiring. Some children were naughty. They didn't always listen to me. But it's hard to describe the joy I felt when the kids finally understood what I was trying to teach them.

Volunteering in Cape Town changed my life. It has changed who I am as a person. I cannot be more grateful for this amazing experience.

Peng Jingxuan, a 29-year-old Chinese girl, is now studying in a music university in Paris. Peng began to study the guzheng when she was 7 years old. In 2017, she went to France to study music. She was {#blank#}1{#/blank#} to find that very few people in France knew about the guzheng. "I wanted to make this instrument known to more people, "Peng said. She made her {#blank#}2{#/blank#} performance in front of a theater in October, 2018. Later, she {#blank#}3{#/blank#} on French streets, wearing a silk Han Dynasty-style dress and playing the guzheng to passers-by. The more Peng played on the streets, the{#blank#}4{#/blank#} pride she felt in sharing Chinese music and culture. 

The videos of Peng playing the guzheng in Paris spread {#blank#}5{#/blank#} and got many likes. They made Peng a very popular guzheng artist. She has {#blank#}6{#/blank#} of fans on the Internet now. "That's just amazing! I {#blank#}7{#/blank#} this kind of music in Chinese films before. But the pieces Peng plays fill my soul with energy. "A foreign fan commented. 

More and more people become {#blank#}8{#/blank#} in the guzheng after watching Peng's performances. "People come to me and praise me for the beauty of the instrument and the music. Every time they ask me which country the guzheng comes from, I am very happy to tell them it's from China. "Peng feels she has more responsibility {#blank#}9{#/blank#} traditional culture. "Music has no borders(边界). I hope more people around the world {#blank#}10{#/blank#} the chance to experience the beauty of guzheng, and Chinese music. I also hope to play a bigger role in making Chinese music known by the world, "Peng said. 

Many people draw on the paper, but few paint on stones. And that was {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (exact) what Mo Wuying is doing. The artist from Chongqing has been doing this for more than eight years. And{#blank#}2{#/blank#} animals she paints on stones are truly lifelike. 

The poses of animals she creates {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (decide) by the shapes of the stones. Mo says it is an art form that requires creative {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (idea).

According to Mo, the first step is to draw the outline of an animal on a stone. Then she colors it {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (make) lively. After that, she adds all the details (细节).

Driven by her love of painting from a young age, Mo has been improving her stone painting skills for years. {#blank#}6{#/blank#} the beginning, she tried her hand at sceneries and characters. In the past three years, she has focuses on painting animals. Mo {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (finish) hundreds of stone paintings so far. "The longer I work on it, the {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (interesting) I find it," said Mo proudly. She sometimes even forgets to eat or sleep {#blank#}9{#/blank#} the painting takes up all her attention. 

"{#blank#}10{#/blank#} is relaxing to paint on stones and makes me more patient," said Mo, adding that she would continue working on it.

I never thought about being a collector. But a few years ago all my friends had the hobby of 1 something. Some of them collected stones. Some collected dolls. Others collected postcards. 

I thought I should collect something, too. I wanted to collect something 2 because I didn't want to follow others. 3 . I decided to collect glasses from different places. When I went to a new place, I 4 one there. I thought this would make me think of all the places I visited. 

Soon all my friends heard of my hobby and 5 buying me glasses from all the places they visit- ed. Therefore, my 6 grew bigger and bigger. I didn't have enough 7 for them. It was 8 for me to have all kinds of glasses. I didn't want glasses from places I had not visited. Finally I 9 them all to my friend Jenny. She was just starting a 10 collection. 

From my story, I want to tell you something: do not collect things that you don't want.

 Luka can 8 Chinese, English and German. And it is also a great singer. After reading, I often ask it to sing a song for me. Some Chinese engineers made Luka. They hope to let Luka read 9 kids from all over the world. Do you want 10 Luka home?
