As a child I once read a story of two men who walked 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada with huge packs,  {#blank#}1{#/blank#}caught my eye, as L, too, dreamed of adventures in the wilderness. I've always remembered that story,{#blank#}2{#/blank#}never believed I would actually make it. It was too far out of my comfort zone.

But then, at the age of 42, I{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(hike) the 88 Temples Trail through Japan There, I experienced how attractive it could be to hike alone.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}impressed me most were the fantastic mountains, grand temples and generous local people.

When I shared my plan {#blank#}5{#/blank#}friends and colleagues, the news was welcomed with mixed{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(react). From some I got enthusiastic approval. But from others there were frowns and question marks. Half a year away from my family was{#blank#}7{#/blank#}challenge for me. Yet it wouldn't defeat me. After all, six months is{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(simple) a short period in a lifetime.{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(work) hard for 20 years in shiny office buildings, I felt the need for more adventure in my life. I hoped to slow down and look within, as well as explore the unfamiliar things. I understood that I needed them both.{#blank#}10{#/blank#}John Muir once said, "Keep close to nature… and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean."

Taking a gap year between high school and college can be a great way to explore your interests, gain new experiences, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} develop skills that will benefit you in the future. For me, my gap year was {#blank#}2{#/blank#} unforgettable adventure that allowed me {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(step) outside my comfort zone and see the world in new ways.

During my gap year, I traveled to several {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(country) including Thailand, Japan, and Peru. I {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (volunteer) at a wildlife preserve in Thailand, where I worked with elephants, monkeys, and other animals. In Japan, I taught English to elementary school children, and in Peru, I worked on a farming project with a local community.

These experiences were greatly rewarding and taught me valuable lessons about the world and myself. I learned how to communicate {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(effective) with people from different cultures, how to adapt {#blank#}7{#/blank#} new environments and situations, and how to be more self-sufficient and resourceful.

In addition to my travels, I also spent time {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(explore) my passions and hobbies. I took art classes, learned how to cook new dishes, and read extensively about topics {#blank#}9{#/blank#} interested me. These activities helped me to develop my creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking skills. So far these skills {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(be) invaluable in shaping my ideas and I'm looking forward to continuing to improve them throughout my life.

Spring rolls, those crispy delights of golden pastry（油酥面团）, featuring a mix {#blank#}1{#/blank#} finely chopped vegetables like cabbage, carrots, and sometimes meat, are among the most popular choices for a quick and {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（taste）bite. The rolls are fried to a perfect crunch and are {#blank#}3{#/blank#}（typical）eaten when hot. To eat one, you have to decide {#blank#}4{#/blank#} to dip the spring roll in a sweet and sour sauce first, adding an extra layer of flavor, or to simply enjoy {#blank#}5{#/blank#} on its own, letting the roll's own taste shine through. While spring rolls {#blank#}6{#/blank#}（serve）in many places, the classic version can be found in the busy street markets, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} they are made fresh on the spot and provided straight from the fryer. Good spring rolls have a light crust, allowing them {#blank#}8{#/blank#}（pick）up easily without breaking or becoming unpleasantly wet. The filling is carefully prepared to guarantee a harmonious variety of tastes and textures（口感）. No matter where I get them, one is rarely enough, but two or three {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（be）too many. Anyway, I am always content every time, yet left {#blank#}10{#/blank#}（look）forward to my next spring roll experience.
