The Other Side of the Wall

    There was a young woman who took great pride in her flower garden. She was raised by her grandmother who taught her to love and take care of flowers. So her flower garden was the 1.

    One day, while she was looking through a flower list she often 2 the flowers from, suddenly a picture of a plant caught her eyes. She had never 3 blooms(花) on a flower like that before. “I have to have it,” she said to 4, and she ordered it at once.

When it arrived, she already had a 5 prepared to plant it. She planted it at the back of her yard. It grew well, with beautiful green leaves all over it, 6 there were no blooms. Day after day she continued to water it, feed it, and she even talked to it, trying to make it bloom. However, it was 7.

    One morning, a few weeks later, when standing before the vine(藤), she felt very 8 that her plant had not bloomed. She was giving thought to  9 it down and planting something else in its place.

    It was at this point that her neighbor, whose 10 joined hers, called over to her. “Thank you so much! You can't imagine how much I have 11 the blooms of that vine you planted.” The young woman walked 12 the gate into her neighbor's yard, and she saw that on the other side of the wall the vine was 13 with blooms.

    They were indeed the most beautiful blooms she had 14 seen. The vine had grown through the crevices (缝隙) and it had not flowered on 15 side of the wall, but it had flowered on the other side.

    Sometimes one may not see the good result of his effort (努力), but that doesn't mean it isn't successful.

    My name is Jim White. I 1 a schoolboy. My school is 2 my home. Every day, it takes me 3 to get there. The road is not 4. So I can't go to school 5. I often get there by bus or 6.       A jobless man wanted to apply(求职)for the position of “office boy” at Microsoft. The staff manager interviewed him and then gave him a   1 : clean the floor. The man pass it: he cleaned the floor very well.

      “You are hired(雇佣),” the manager told the man. “Give me your email address, and I'll send you the form to    2  . I shall also send you the   3    you should report for the work. ”The man replied, “I don't have a   4   , or email!”

      “I'm sorry ,” said the manager. “if you don't have an email, that means you do not exist(存在). And we can not  5   person who do not exist. ”

He went to the supermarket and bought a box of tomatoes with his 10 dollars. He went from door to door and   8     the tomatoes in small bags. He doubled his money.

      Five years later, the man became one of the biggest  11   sellers in the country. He started to plan his family's future. He called an insurance(保险) broker, a man who sells insurance. At the end of the  12  , the broker asked him for his email address. The man replied, “I don't have an email.”

      Hearing that, the broker felt very   13 . “You don't have an email, and yet have succeeded in becoming so  14 . Can you imagine what you could have been if you had an email?” he said aloud. The man thought for a while, and replied, “an office  15 at Microsoft! ”

    Mike worked for the Canadian government.One day, he was 1 to learn more about wolves.Do wolves kill lots of caribou (北美驯鹿)? Do they kill people?

    They gave him lots of food and clothes and guns.Then they put him on a plane and 2 him to a far-away place.The plane put him down and went away.There were no houses or 3 in this place, but there were lots of animals and lots of wolves.

    Then one day, he saw a group of wolves.There was a mother wolf with four baby wolves.A father wolf and another male wolf, younger than him, lived with them.

    Mike watched these wolves every day.The mother was a very good mother.She gave milk to her babies.She gave them lessons about life.They learned how to 6 food.The father wolf got food for the mother.The young male wolf 7 the children.They were a nice, happy family—a wolf family! Mike did not need his 8 any more.In a short time, he got on well with the family.Mike 9 them for five months.He learned that many stories about wolves were not true.Wolves do not eat people, and they do not eat many large animals.And he also learned bad things about 10.It was men who killed many caribou and wolves.

    Later, Mike wrote a book about wolves.He wanted people to understand them and stop killing them.

    A woman was waiting for her plane at an airport.

    She bought a bag of cookies, found a place to1and took out her 2. She started to read and 3noticed that a man, sitting beside her, took a cookie4her bag. She just 5not to see this. So she ate the cookies quickly and at the same time watched how the shameless thief（小偷）was stealing6cookies. She thought to herself, "If I wasn't such a（n）7 person, I would hit him in the eye. "

    8only one cookie was left, she looked with interest and9what he would do. He smiled, took the10cookie and broke it in half. She thought, "This guy is so impolite. He didn't even show any11!"

    After her flight was called, the woman12 her baggage（行李）and headed to the gate. She took her seat in the 13, and started to look for her book, which was almost complete. As she reached her baggage, she gasped（喘气）with 14, as there was an unopened bag of cookies. A terrible thought crossed her mind, "If my cookie bag is here, the other one was his and he just tried to15." She realized that she was the impolite one, but it was too late to say sorry to him.
