Brighton is the{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (health)city in Britain with the highest level of personal trainers, yoga clubs and health food stores, according to a survey related on Friday.

    The survey, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} looks at 19 statistics covering health, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} （fit）and environment, says Brighton has the highest number of residents {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (eat) at least five kinds of fruit and vegetables a day.

    The survey, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (conduct) for the Sky Travel channel, has compared 15 cities across the UK. It says Brighton residents live {#blank#}6{#/blank#} an average age of 78 years old. They are twice as likely {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (walk) or cycle to work as the people living in other parts of Britain.

    In {#blank#}8{#/blank#} （compare）with the national average, Brighton has nearly a third more health food stores and personal trainers than{#blank#}9{#/blank#} in any other city in Britain. It has twice many yoga clubs, and the level of fat residents is below the national average.

    Meanwhile, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} survey also finds that Brighton residents have the best levels of cholesterol (胆固醇) and blood pressure in Britain.

    In much of Asia, especially the stalled “rice bowl” cultures of China, Japan, Korea,{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Vietnam, food is usually eaten with chopsticks.

    Chopsticks are usually two long, thin pieces of wood or bamboo. They can also be made of plastic, animal bone or metal. Sometimes chopsticks are quite artistic. Truly elegant chopsticks might{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (make) of gold and silver with Chinese characters. Skilled workers also combine (结合) various hardwoods and metal{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(create) special designs.

    The Chinese have used chopsticks for five thousand years. People probably cooked their food in large pots,{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (use) twigs (树枝) to remove it. Over time,{#blank#}5{#/blank#}the population grew, people began cutting food into small pieces so it would cook more quickly. Food in small pieces could be eaten easily with twigs which{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(gradual) turned into chopsticks.

    Some people think that the great Chinese scholar Confucius,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} lived from roughly 551 to 479 B.C., influenced the{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(develop) of chopsticks. Confucius believed knives would remind people of killings and {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (be) too violent for use at the table.

    Chopsticks are not used everywhere in Asia. In India, for example, most people traditionally eat{#blank#}10{#/blank#} their hands.

    A study shows that new technology is reducing children's ability {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(use) a pencil or pen. The study is from the National Health Service in the UK. Researchers said that nowadays, children spend so much time swiping iPads or mobile phone screens {#blank#}2{#/blank#}they cannot hold a pencil properly. Children are not using{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(pencil), so they now lack the muscle{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (strong) in their hands to be able to write {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(proper). Researcher Dr Sally Payne said: “Children are not coming into school with the strong hand and the ability they{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (have)

    10 years ago. Children {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (come) into school are being given a pencil but are increasingly not able to hold it because they don't have the fundamental (基本的) movement skills.”

    The researchers said technology is changing the physical way that children write, draw or make things. Dr Payne explained why. She said: “It's{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(easy) to give a child an iPad than encourage them to do muscle-building play such as building blocks, cutting and sticking, or pulling toys and ropes. One expert said {#blank#}9{#/blank#} a child isn't strong enough to hold a pencil, perhaps their whole body is weak. She said it was better for children's physical development to climb trees {#blank#}10{#/blank#} to watch YouTube videos.

    On arriving in the United States, I felt everything was different. There were many new things I had to adapt to. One thing that really {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(take) me a long time to adapt to was speaking the language.

    I remember {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(clear) that I had to struggle to learn English because I couldn't even write a short paragraph to introduce myself at the first day of my English class. The teacher asked me {#blank#}3{#/blank#}it was difficult for me. If it was, I could change to level one!

    However, I was stubborn and swore that I was going to succeed. I started to spend many {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(hour)per day, even though it was stressful, because I wanted to take advantage {#blank#}5{#/blank#}this special chance to study English in the USA.

    I felt depressed because I couldn't understand {#blank#}6{#/blank#}people were saying even though I made great efforts. However, I still kept {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(try) and never gave up.

Now, I can tell you that I have improved a lot, but sometimes it is still easy for me to get{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(confuse) if I don't know what topic people {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(talk) about. To adapt to this new language, I had to tell {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(I) that I could do it. I really believe I can!

Time to Learn How to Sort

Whatever we don't want —- no matter whether it's eggshells, newspapers, soda cans or old socks —- it's all garbage. And garbage goes to the garbage bin. There seems to be {#blank#}1{#/blank#}wrong with that. But do you really know how to throw away garbage properly?

    China {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (promote) garbage sorting for over a decade, but for the majority of the public the concept hasn't sunk in. Shenzhen issued a new regulation. It says residents will be fined up to 100 yuan and organizations 1,000 yuan for not sorting rubbish {#blank#}3{#/blank#}specific groups.

    "It's evident that the government is determined to push this forward," said Zhang Ning, a program officer {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(serve) in a Beijing-based public welfare organization. "But I'm afraid the regulation will prove to be counter-productive because garbage sorting has never been achieved by merely imposing severe punishments."

    A recent survey found that 49.5 percent of the respondents said they still don't know how to sort garbage, {#blank#}5{#/blank#}45.5percent just can't be bothered to do it. "Lots of citizens {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(confuse)about what's recyclable and what's general waste. For example, it's scarcely known that tissue is non-recyclable because it's too moisture-prone and usually too polluted {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (recycle)." said Zhang, a representative.

    According to Zhang, 70 percent of garbage is a " {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(misplace)resource". For instance, a ton of waste steel can be refined into 0.9 tons of usable steel, and a ton of kitchen waste is able to produce 0.3 tons of organic fertilizer.

But all of this is based on the condition {#blank#}9{#/blank#}the garbage is categorized properly. And the behavior of households {#blank#}10{#/blank#}the sorting process initially starts —- is the key. Garbage sorting is a chain effect. Misconduct at the very beginning will make all the following efforts go in vain.

    Garbage sorting is a complex issue and takes patience. So next time when you throw away what is called "garbage", do it in the right way.
