Wang Peng felt very frustrated when he saw none of his patrons (常客) would eat in his restaurant as {#blank#}1{#/blank#}( usually). In his opinion, nothing could be {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(good)than his fried , mutton kebabs , fatty pork or his sugary cola . Who won his customers? He followed one of his best {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(friend) into Yong Hui's newly-opened slimming restaurant and was {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(amaze) at the menu there :raw vegetables , fruit and water . {#blank#}5{#/blank#} was obvious that Yong Hui was telling lies when promising to make the customers thinner. In order to win his customers {#blank#}6{#/blank#}, he went to the library to do some research, {#blank#}7{#/blank#}showed Yong Hui's menu didn't give the customers energy-giving food .Having found out the{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(weak ) of Yong Hui's menu , Wang Peng wrote his own sign ,{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(say) energy-giving food served. In fact, there was weakness in Wang Peng's menus, too .Food at his restaurant {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(contain) too much fat . So the only solution is to combine the two menus together to be a balanced menu.

    Silk was not the only product to be transported along the Silk Road, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}other goods such as tea, medicinal herbs also being exported from China. Many merchants found instant wealth through the trade in luxury items．

    Rather than traveling the entire length of the Silk Road, each merchant traded goods along one section of the route, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (buy) them in one town and then selling in another. The travelers and merchants also {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (carry) many ideas, philosophies and religions with them along the Silk Road. Of all these, Buddhism, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}came from India, had the greatest influence on Chinese culture. It{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(eventual) became China's primary faith, {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(widespread) than the original Chinese religions of Confucianism and Taoism．

    Silk Road trades traveled together in long caravans of camels. This mode of travel provided{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(protect) from robbers who might attempt {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (rob) the valuable goods being transported．The Silk Road was not only one single road, but{#blank#}9{#/blank#} whole collection of routes by which goods{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (transport) between the East and the West．

    My mom was a nurse and often took me along to visit the {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（family） she was caring for, including one who had a series of strokes （中风） and was bedridden. One afternoon Mom told me that we needed to visit the woman {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（give）her medications, and that we would stop at a store {#blank#}3{#/blank#} the way. I thought we would stop at a drugstore, but we pulled up to a shopping mall.

    My mom {#blank#}4{#/blank#}（head） to the perfume（香水）counter and bought the most expensive bottle they offered. She also bought a beautiful nightdress. When I asked her who they were for, she said they were for her patient. She {#blank#}5{#/blank#}（far） explained although this woman was old and bedridden, she was still a lady, and {#blank#}6{#/blank#} old deserved to be treated with respect and grace. When {#blank#}7{#/blank#} （care） for someone, we should look past the disability or the illness and look into the soul of the human, so we can connect them with sympathy. I soon realized that my mom's greatest {#blank#}8{#/blank#}（strong）was taking care of those who cannot advocate for {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（they） and need trustworthy care providers. That's {#blank#}10{#/blank#} I wanted to become a doctor.

    Xie Lei, a Chinese student studying in Britain, shared her progress in both study and life. It was the first time she {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (leave) her motherland. On arriving in London, she lived with a host family, in {#blank#}2{#/blank#} they always helped her. It's {#blank#}3{#/blank#} great comfort for her. And she is halfway through her {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (prepare) year, which is a must for any student before entering a degree course. But she found {#blank#}5{#/blank#} difficult to get used to the academic requirements of a western university, because she got an E for her first essay. When she asked the reason for the tutor's revision, the tutor said that she couldn't write {#blank#}6{#/blank#} other people said without {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (acknowledge) them and encouraged her to express her own ideas.

    Now Xie Lei feels much more at home in England. In other words, she adapts {#blank#}8{#/blank#} the new environment well. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (hopeful), she is going to join a few {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (club) to make friends and have a balance between study and a social life.

    According to a recent survey, violence does exist in schools. Students show their fear and parents and teachers also {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (express) their great concern about it. Experts hope {#blank#}2{#/blank#} whole society will pay more attention to the mental health of adolescents.

    Nowadays, school violence is a big issue. I think this is a phenomenon (现象), which {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (call) for our great concern. We should try every effort {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (prevent) school violence happening, for more and more students would drop out of school if their personal {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (safe) could not be guaranteed (保证). In fact, violence can be learned. {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (actual), children learn violent behavior from adults or from {#blank#}7{#/blank#} they see on television or the Internet.

    If I meet with school violence, I will not answer violence with violence, for it will result in {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (much) fights. I will tell my teachers or parents about it. I think they will help me deal with it well and protect me {#blank#}9{#/blank#} the bad guys.

    All in all, we students should behave {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (we) and keep away from violence.

What should we do when everything{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(feel) so out of control？

Living with so much uncertainty is hard. Human beings long for information about the future in the same way we long for food, water and other primary{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(reward). Our brain sperceive uncertainty as a threat, and they try to protect us by{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(remind) us to focus on creating certainty.  

But sometimes—maybe always—it's{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(effective) for us not to attempt to create certainty. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}evolution might have commanded our brains to resist uncertainty,  we can never{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(real) know what the future will bring.  And during improbable situations like the pandemic(疫情) , {#blank#}7{#/blank#}has greatly disturbed our routines and totally destroyed our plans, we need to learn to live with uncertainty.  

"Uncertainty is the only certainty there is," wrote mathematician John Allen Paulos. "Knowing how{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(live) with insecurity is the only security."
