    Mr. Liu is an English teacher. He works in Shanghai. In July he wants to go on a trip to Chengde with his wife and daughter. Shanghai is far from Chengde. It is about 1,400 kilometres. They want to take a plane. Because a plane is fast. They are going to stay in Chengde for seven days. Because it is very cool there.

    There are four seasons in China. March, April and May make the spring. June, July and August make the summer season. September, October and November make the autumn season. The rest（剩下）of months make the winter season.

    The Australia seasons are the opposite（相反的）of ours. When it's spring in China, it is autumn in Australia.

    Australia is in the south（南方）of the earth. June, July and August are the winter months. The summer is in December, January and February. It's very hot there, too.

    Near the North Pole（北极）there are two seasons. The winter nights are long. For more than two months you can't see the sun, even at noon. The summer days are long. For more than two months, the sun never sets（落下）, and there's no night.

    An old man visits a new doctor. He is very young. "I don't fed well, doctor." he said. "Please find out what's wrong with me." "Take off your clothes and lay down on the bed." The old man takes off his clothes and lies down on the bed. The young doctor examines him. However, he can't find anything wrong with the old man. He listens to his heart. He looks into his throat. He stands up and puts on his clothes. Then he walks out of the hospital. A few seconds later, the nurse runs in. "Doctor, doctor!" she cries, "That man you said was healthy has just died outside of the door." The doctor thinks quickly. "Turn the body around, so that people will think he was coming in." he said.

    Many years ago, people use a stick, a large piece of wood and dry leaves to make a fire. Today, wood, gas (煤气) and electricity (电) can all make a fire. I think wood is the most dangerous. And I like gas most because it's easy.

    People use fire in many ways. At home, people use fire to cook food and boil water. In factories, workers use fire to melt (熔化) metals (金属) to makes things of different shapes. Some workers use fire to make glass.

    Fire can help us to do many things, but sometimes fire is dangerous. Cigarettes and campfires can all start a fire in the countryside, in schools and at homes. We must be careful. We mustn't smoke in the countryside, and we mustn't cook without an adult (成年人). We mustn't play with matches. We mustn't play around a fire.
