Mr. Johnson lived in the woods with his wife and children. He owned{#blank#}1{#/blank#} farm, which looked almost abandoned. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (lucky), he also had a cow which produced milk every day. He sold or exchanged some of the milk in the towns nearly{#blank#}3{#/blank#} other food and made cheese and butter for the family with what{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (leave). The cow was their only means of support, in fact. One day, the cow was eating grass{#blank#}5{#/blank#} it began to rain heavily. While making great efforts to run away, she{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (fall) over the hill and died. Then the Johnson tried to make a living{#blank#}7{#/blank#} the cow. In order to support his family, Mr. Johnson began to plant herbs and vegetables. Since the plants took a while to grow, he started cutting down trees{#blank#}8{#/blank#}  (sell) the wood. Thinking about his children's clothes, he started growing cotton too. When harvest came around, he was already selling herbs, vegetables and cotton in the market{#blank#}9{#/blank#} people from the town met regularly. Now it occurred to{#blank#}10{#/blank#} that his farm had much potential and that the death of the cow was a bit of luck.

    No one loves me more than my parents, especially my father. My father is stout and strong, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} a serious look on his face and keen expressive eyes. At first sight you may feel him hard {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (approach). In fact he is very kind and considerate. I believe my father is a {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (gift) man. He is decisive and efficient in doing things. By his own talents and years of efforts, he {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (provide) his children with good education and a {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (relative) rich life. Besides, he lives in harmony with others and never quarrels with anyone, so people from all walks of life come to my house, from {#blank#}6{#/blank#} I've gained lots of social experiences. But at home he is a strict parent who is hard on me and has a high{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (expect) of me.     A program called Everlasting Classics is becoming {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (increase) popular. The program, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} combines Chinese traditional poetry with music, was launched by China Central Television (CCTV) in 2018.

    And it became a great hit soon after the program {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (show) on CCTV 1. It was hosted by Sa Beining, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} CCTV host loved by the audience, and the Appreciation Group in the group included Professor Kang Zen from Beijing Normal University, Dean of the China Conservatory of Music, Wang Liguang, the famous hostess Zeng Baoyi and the well-known singer Yu Chengqing. Together, they led the audience to interpret and appreciate many classic Chinese poems, enjoying the {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (beautiful) that the poems brought to the audience. Moreover, the poems were adapted into songs, which were sung by famous singers, like Zhang Jie, Wang Yuan, etc, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (make) the program more spellbinding.

    In Season 1 of the program, one of the {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (attract) songs was Butterfly Lovers (《梁祝》). An 88-year-old pianist called Wu Yili played the music with the famous violinist Lv Siqing. The melodious music moved many of the audience {#blank#}8{#/blank#} tears. In recent years, CCTV has produced many programs {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (spread) traditional Chinese culture, including Chinese Poetry Competition {#blank#}10{#/blank#} Everlasting Classics. Thanks to these programs, many people set off a craze for the study of Chinese culture.

    The United Kingdom consists of four countries: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Wales was linked {#blank#}1{#/blank#} England in the 13th century. In the 17th century England and Wales were joined to Scotland, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (form) Great Britain.

    They were united in {#blank#}3{#/blank#} peaceful way. The southern part of Ireland was unwilling to join the English government and broke away to found its own government.

    England is the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (large) of the four countries and for convenience it is divided {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (rough) into three zones: the South of England, the Midlands and the North. Most of the population lives in the south, but most of the industrial cities {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (locate) in the Midlands and the North. It is a pity that the industrial cities which were constructed in the nineteenth century do not attract {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (visit).

    London is the capital city with great historical treasures, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} is the centre of national government and its administration. It has the oldest port, building and castle {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (build) by the invaders. Without the historical evidence, we {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (will) not be able to learn more about the history and culture of the UK.
