Can you imagine waking up each day in a house that is (gentle) rocked by the movement of water? Well, for some people this vision of the future may become a reality.

It is a commonly accepted fact that the Earth's temperature rises, the ice caps at the North and South Poles will melt, (cause) the sea level to rise.

So, where does this leave the many countries in the world have large sections of their populations living in areas which lie at or below sea level? The Netherlands, for example, is one of most highly populated, low-lying countries and (battle) with the problem of flooding for years. Further rises in the sea level would result in much of the country disappearing under water.

Inventive architects may have come up with a (solve) to the problem: a house actually built on the water. The basic idea is that houses will have a base (fill) with air and a way of anchoring(使固定) them to the ground. This will allow the house (move) upwards whenever the sea level rises and sink back down when the sea level drops. So, will (float) houses be the homes of the future? For some people there may be no alternative.

You Are a Time Traveler

Time travel has long fascinated people. Traveling to the past or future would allow you to live in exciting periods of history or get a glimpse(一瞥) of {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the future holds. Think about it. If you could travel in time, where would you go? Perhaps you would voyage far ahead of the present day {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (meet)your future self! What about watching an original performance of {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Shakespeare play in Elizabethan England? Or maybe you would pay a visit to {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (you)as a baby.

Since these ideas are universally appealing to everyone, it is {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (nature)that time travel interests so many writers, filmmakers, and scientists. It has been depicted in a {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (various) of media, such as literature, film, and science reports. But you might be surprised to realize that {#blank#}7{#/blank#} the smallest sense of the term, we are all time travelers. Even as you sit here {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (read)this article, time is racing forward. The future becomes the past as soon as it happens. The present is so fleeting(稍纵即近)! Everything you do quickly {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (become) part of the past, and so it is that we move through time. The famous scientist Albert Einstein, assigned a mathematical formula to this idea, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} is called The Theory of Relativity.

I{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(invite)to attend a function(盛大的集会)to celebrate the 25th anniversary of a business{#blank#}2{#/blank#}position was in the west of our city and it was owned by a very good and special friend.

The day of the celebration arrived. However, because of an appointment taking up some time, I knew that I would be late, so l phoned to tell my friend about it. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(know)that I was on my way, he put off the official part of the celebration. I arrived 20 minutes late and my friend came out to welcome and greet me. He said he was pleased to see me.

As I joined the other guests, I could feel a wonderful sense of friendship, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (warm)and happiness in the room. Sadly, I had very little time to speak to more than a couple of people before the official part of the celebration {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(start).

In his speech, my friend welcomed all the guests{#blank#}6{#/blank#}behalf of his family and team members, and then he{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(sincere)thanked the people who were gathered in the room for their support and friendship over the past 25 years. In his thank-you speech, he used a quote:"Always dance with the person you took to the dance."

He then went on to talk about the importance of remaining{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(faith)to those people who had supported him. He also mentioned that during that time many people had offered their services and even sometimes provided{#blank#}9{#/blank#}better arrangement for his business. What a great honor it was for me{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(continue)to go to the dance with such a good friend!

In South Korea smartphone cases come with rings fixed on the back {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (prevent) clumsy owners from dropping them. This makes people look like they are married to their phones. In lots of Seoul's coffee {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (shop), couples on dates spend much more time looking at their screens {#blank#}3{#/blank#} at each other. The results go beyond the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (potential) terrible consequences for romance.

Walk around the streets of Seoul, and there is {#blank#}5{#/blank#} real risk of bumping into people {#blank#}6{#/blank#} eyes are glued to their smartphone screens. According to the statistics, around 370 traffic accidents annually {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (cause) by pedestrians using smartphones.

The government initially tried to fight the "smombie" (手机僵尸) phenomenon by distributing hundreds of stickers (贴纸) around cities, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (beg) people to "be safe" and look up. This seems to have had little effect even though, in Seoul at least, it recently replaced the stickers with stronger plastic boards.

Instead {#blank#}9{#/blank#} appealing to people's good sense, the authorities have therefore turned to trying to save them from being run over. Early last year, they {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (begin) to test floor-level traffic lights in smombie hotspots in central Seoul. Since then, the experiment has been extended around and beyond the capital. For the moment, the government is keeping old-fashioned eye-level pedestrian lights as well. But in future, the way to look at a South Korea crossroads may be down.
