Chuck Wall teaches management and human relations at Bakersfield College. He walked into class one day and told his students that their homework was to perform a simple and random act of kindness. Not {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (understand) the homework, the students didn't know what to do. Chuck didn't answer their questions. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}, he encouraged his students to work it out by themselves.

    One week later, the students entered the classroom and began sharing their stories {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (excited). One reported on helping a poor dog {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (abandon) by its owner. Another student told others about giving blankets away to the homeless. Gradually, more and more students developed the habit of doing such kind acts, from {#blank#}5{#/blank#} they benefited a lot.

    Since then, similar kind acts {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (perform) in schools around the world. Many schools organize a Random Acts of Kindness Week, around November 13^th, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (celebrate) World Kindness Day. Some schools use each day of Random Acts of Kindness Week to perform a {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (differ) kind act, such {#blank#}9{#/blank#} making a new friend, helping someone, doing community service or raising money for a charity. In this way, students learn to consider other people and think about how small actions can make the world a {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (good) place.

    A proverb says, “Time is money”. But in my opinion, time is even {#blank#}1{#/blank#}precious than money. Why? {#blank#}2{#/blank#} when money is spent, we can earn it back. However, when time is {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(go), it will never return.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#} is known to all that the time we can use is limited. Therefore we should make {#blank#}5{#/blank#} use of our time to study hard so as to serve our country in {#blank#}6{#/blank#} future.

    But it is a pity that there are a lot of people {#blank#}7{#/blank#} do not realize the value of time. They spend their precious time {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(play).

    In a word, we should form the good habit of {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(save) time. Do not put off what can be done today {#blank#}10{#/blank#} tomorrow.

    Itzhak Perlman, a famous violinist, came on stage to give a concert. He was stricken with polio（小儿麻痹症）as a child, so getting on stage is no small {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (achieve).

    The audience sat quietly while he made his way across the stage {#blank#}2{#/blank#} his chair and began his play. But this time,{#blank#}3{#/blank#} went wrong. Just as he finished the first part, one of the strings on his violin {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(break). We thought that he would have to stop the concert. But he didn't.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}, he waited a moment, closed his eyes and then signaled the conductor to begin again.

    {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(power) and pure, his performance attracted all the attention.

    Of course, anyone believes {#blank#}7{#/blank#}impossible to play a harmonious work with just three strings. I know that, and you know that, but that night Itzhak Perlman refused {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (know) that.

    When he finished, people rose and cheered.

    {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (smile), he wiped the sweat and said, “You know, sometimes it is the artist's task to find out how much music you can still make with {#blank#}10{#/blank#}you have left.”

    Now, I'd like to tell you about the development of computers. Computers began {#blank#}1{#/blank#} a calculating machine in France in 1642, it could {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (simple) difficult sums. In 1936, Alan Turing wrote a book about how a computer could be made to work as a "universal Machine" {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (solve) any difficult mathematical problem. By the 1940s, computers had grown as large as a room. As time went by, they were made {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (small). Since the 1970s computers {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (use) in offices and homes, first as personal computers and then as laptops.

    As computers' memory improved, computers became much smaller and more {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (intelligence). First the memory was stored in tubes, then on transistors and later on very small chips. Over time computer's memory {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (develop) so much that computers remember everything they have been told. In the early 1960s computers could be connected to each other by the network {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (call) the World Wide Web.

    Many new {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (apply) have been found for computers since the1970s. They have been used in communication, finance, trade, robots, mobile phones, space rockets and so the goal of computers is to provide humans {#blank#}10{#/blank#} a life of high quality.
