Nowadays too many people have to work at weekends. Some people don't . Others think it's terrible.
One woman thinks that working at the weekends can be dangerous. She is Kelly Smith. Mrs. Smith works in an office in Brighton, England. One Saturday, May 24, she went to the office to do some work. After she got into the lift, it stopped between the . Mrs. Smith couldn't get out of the lift. She began to shout, but no one heard him. Then Mrs. Smith that it was holiday in England. No one was going to work until Tuesday. With nothing to eat or drink, Mrs. Smith was very hungry and had to sleep most of the time. Early on Tuesday morning, her workmates came to work and found the lift . When the lift was opened, Mrs. Smith came out cold, weak and tried. She had been in the lift for more than 60 hours.
Now Mrs. Smith says, "I only use lifts if they have telephones in them!"
Every year the students at Harry's school put on a concert. Their friends and parents go to the concert. Some students sing and dance. Others act in plays.
Harry likes to act. He also likes to write plays. For one concert he wrote a play about a spaceman. He called it Lost in Space. He acted in his play. He was the spaceman.
Harry made his own costume. It was a spacesuit. He used plastic bags to make the pants. He wore a shirt that belonged to his mother. It was an old shirt. It was made of silk. She did not want it anymore.
His shoes were an old pair of his father's. He didn't want them anymore either. They were made of leather.
Harry's helmet was an old motorcycle helmet.
Harry painted his costume with silver paint. He looked like a spaceman.
There was only one problem. No one could hear what he said!
It was a Saturday afternoon. Mr Green was reading a newspaper when he heard his wife 1 in the next room. He hurried to her and asked, "What happened to you, my dear?"
"Oh, dear!" his wife called out. "My head hurts! 2 a doctor. Hurry up!" Their two children were both out at that moment and something was wrong with the telephone. Mr. Green had to go to a hospital himself. Bad luck! That day all the hospitals in the town were 3 . Mr. Green didn't know where to go. Just then a friend of his saw him and asked, "What is the matter?"
Mr. Green told everything. The man said, "Why not go to Mr Black? He can help you. "
Mr. Green remembered his friend 4 was a good doctor. He hurried to Mr. Black's. When he got there, Mr and Mrs Black were having their 5 meal. The doctor asked Mr. Green to drink with him. Once, a king showed two men a large basket in the garden. He told them to fill it with water from a well. After they their work, he left them, saying, "when the sun is d, I will come and see yow work."
At last one of them said, "What's the use of doing this foolish work? We can never f the basket."The other man answered," That is none of your business." The first man said. "You may do as you like, but I am not going to work at nothing so f ."He threw down his bucket and went away. The other man said no w, and kept on carrying water. At last the well was almost e.
As he poured the last bucket of water into the basket, he saw a bright thing in it. He picked it up. It was a beautiful gold ring. Just then the king came. As soon as he saw the ring, he knew that he had found the kind of man he w. He told him to keep the ring for himself. "You have done so well in this little thing, " he said," that now I know I can b you with many things."
Aleck was a seven-year-old boy. He lived next door to Tim and Tom. The twin brothers' birthday was coming, so he went to the shopping center to buy some presents for them. He was very happy when he got the presents. He ran through the shopping centre happily. He was so busy thinking about his friends that he did not look where he was going. He ran straight into a young woman who was pushing a baby in the pushchair. Aleck and the woman fell over onto the floor.
The woman was so angry that she could not speak. Aleck hurt his little finger and his hands were dirty. The baby in the pushchair started crying."You silly boy! Why don't you look where you are going? Help me pick up my bags," shouted the woman.
"I'm sorry," cried Aleck."Let me help you."
Aleck and the woman picked up her bags and put them under the pushchair. The baby stopped crying, and as the woman got into the lift, she said,"Be more careful next time."
