If you can't think of the right words when you're writing, what do you usually do? Talk with other people? Have a rest? Or eat some food? A new study shows that fresh air and a long walk can improve creativity.

Scientists found that exercise can improve our divergent(发散的) thinking and convergent(聚合的) thinking. These are the two parts of creative thinking. The first means thinking of several answers to one problem, and the second means thinking of one answer to one problem.

Scientists did an experiment on two groups of people. The first group needed to exercise at least three times a week, and the second one didn't need to do that. To see if the exercise could improve their creativity, scientists did some tests on them after the exercise. First, they asked the participants to think of many different uses of a pen. Second, the participants needed to find out a connection among three words. For example, "short" connects the words "story", "holiday" and "tree".

Three months later, scientists found that people from the first group did better in creative thinking than the second group. "We think exercise can train your brain to find creative answers to a problem," Lorenza Colzato, a scientist from Leiden University, told the Daily Telegraph. But this only works if your body is used to being active.
